Corn Feed 9 Awards!
Posted on: 06-19-09 06:34 PM     Posted by: bob

Thought I'd let the group know the results of our annual Corn Feed awards ceremony. This is a very disorganized and shoddy production we do at each Corn Feed to honor (dishonor) a few VMFers each year.

So, without further ado, here is how this years came down:

Doofus of the Year: Tubo - for some very excellent work on his Mustang that somehow resulted in his wife's car also needing some body work.

World Traveler Award: 67Mousestang - I think that's the first time we've had a VMFer show up who actually had to do an international border crossing! He was awarded a small travel kit for his troubles. I resisted the temptation to buy him the woman's version...

Bling Bling Award: 70_Fastback - His car has an Ostrich catcher on the hood, how could he NOT get this award? Cloney even brought the little stuffed animal with the bling bling necklace all the way up from KC, and that has now been passed on to 70_Fastback who brought it all the way back to Kansas!

Dodgestang Award (Cursed Car): John from Chicago (what's his handle, anyway?). He had a front suspension that just about let loose over in Omaha, and he had a shock basically disintegrate which was discovered at the picnic Saturday. He walked away with a very unique camshaft out of the perennial previous winner's car - 1966Conv's...

Schlepper Award: Dodgestang, for all the hauling of everyone's cars and for having to drag out all his tools for everyone all the time. He got a recycling grocery store bag for his trouble.

Soggy Bottom: Zim64half - got a snorkel and mask for nearly drowning in his car on the way back from Omaha.

Red Bull Award: Dodgestang - he ran to the bitter end throughout CF9, including a Perkins 'breakfast' run with Stroked66 and I at 3am... He received what was left of a bottle of booze 65Topless had left at my house 2 years ago and hadn't been touched since...

Speaking of 65Topless... He received the Teebone Award this year as the most conspicuous absence. He will pay for his obedience to Steve Balmer and the Microsoft empire.... oh, he will pay... And I am not even the slightest bit threatened by the fact that he had his wife call and dress me down Saturday night. Seriously, the guy had his wife call... what a wussie! Man up there, 65Topless! Payback is a comin'!!!!

Toni took home a day planner for being the Most Entertaining SWMBO...

Netvestite Award: 70_Fastback - he comes off all tough and bad ass on the forum... then you meet him and he's a really nice guy... He received a set of fake fingernails so he could do himself up all pretty-like...

Mikey Doesn't Like It Award: Went to 1966Conv for being the pickiest eater of the group - this was driven home by the fact that when all of us went to a Mexican joint for lunch over in Omaha, Alan went to a Pizza Hut all by himself... he received a box of Life cereal... to which he said "I don't like Life Cereal though!"...

Rookie of the Year: 67Mousestang - the Canadians had some fun watching Stanley Cup with all of us folks down here and seemed to be having a pretty good time all around (you could tell by the bloodshot eyes each morning). He received some 'Cars' Pez dispensers donated by Teebone and Toni.

Geek is Chic Award: ObsidianSpider received this award because he was less interested in seeing any of us or anything going on at CF9 than trying to find his next geocache... he received some deodorant and mouthwash in hopes it will help him socially...

Sleep Apnea Award went to CantedValve for his complete denial that he was sawing logs all the way to Omaha in the back of Dodgestang's truck. How does he explain the time traveling then? He received a 5-hour energy shot drink.

I Like the Nightlife, I Like to Boogie Award: Mach1Mustang; What goes on at CF stays at CF, but suffice it to say we've never had a VMFer take in so much, er, 'nightlife' before! He received a Maxim magazine...

Hard Luck Award: 70_Fastback received this award for all the trouble he had on Saturday. He received some ice cream from Ronny (Mezzodi's owner) because he never made it to the ice cream after his car broke down...

It was a lot of fun! Can't wait until next year!

Another Great Corn Feed on the Books!
Posted on: 06-14-09 04:21 PM     Posted by: bob

I thought I'd open up an official CF 9.0 thread here for everyone to post their musings, photos, etc.

As for me, it was a great time! Connected with folks up at Mezzodi's Thursday after work. Hung out as folks started to arrive. Teebone, 1966Conv were among the earliest arrivers; then the caravan arrived with folks from all over parts east. Chicago, Maryland, Indiana, and even Toronto were represented! Had fun visiting with some old friends and meeting some new folks - wound up calling it a night at around 1am - after all, we did have to get up early to head to the track the next morning!

Next morning, got the Viper started - it hasn't been out of the garage this year. Had to move some filing cabinets out of the way in order to get it out as well. I checked the air pressure in the tires for both cars, way low. Had to get that corrected, so we got that taken care of and I filled the Shelby with gas and set off to meet up with the crew going to the track. Stroked66 headed to McDonalds to get a snack before we hit the road. Dodgestang very, very generously offered to let the Shelby hitch a ride in his enclosed trailer (I still don't have tie-downs in my enclosed trailer - how pathetic is that?).

Got a call when I reached the hotel, Viper wouldn't start - battery was dead. 1966 and I headed up to get it started, he had a handy dandy portable power pack that rocked! Started the car right up. We rushed out the follow the caravan heading to the track.

Once at the track (after having to have 1966Conv start the Viper once again), we got checked in and the cars unloaded. I headed out for a couple of laps in the Viper, having never had it on the track before. It was a very fun car on the track - handles like a go-kart. A very different experience than the Shelby, that's for sure. Stroked66 took over the Viper, and I took the street-tire clad Shelby out for a spin. Stroked66 was following me in the Viper, and after 4 laps or so I thought I was seeing some smoke in my rear view mirror on certain corners (left handers). Returned to the pits, was no big deal, apparently I screwed up the valve cover gasket on the passenger side when I'd adjusted the valves - oil was escaping and hitting the header. Didn't bother to throw a new gasket on, as it started raining about then. I think Stroked66 got another few laps in with the GTS while I was tinkering on the Shelby. I managed to take the GTS out with Dodgestang, while it was raining, to do some pretty tame laps. Set a new course record in number of hours it takes to go 2.3 miles.

Brought the Viper back in, Stroked66 was going to take someone out for one last run when they noticed a distinct hissing sound coming from the right rear tire. Bummer, punctured tire. Track day over, donut spare on (looked very odd) and off to the tire repair shop.

Got the tire back on the Viper, and went for some lunch at a Mexican restaurant someone recommended. Enjoyed a nice lunch, 1966Conv joined us after he'd eaten alone at the Pizza Hut (finicky eater that he is! ).

Torrential downpour ensued all the way home - 2 hrs of driving in rain back to Des Moines. Poor guys in their vintage convertibles dealt with rain inside as well as outside of their cars! The Viper was more than a little scary on certain pavement times in the driving rain - the Kumho's that are on there are lousy rain tires. Several points in the ride, Stroke66 asked me 'Are we floating?'. He was remarkably calm considering how badly we were hydroplaning several times.

Once back to Des Moines, the rain that we'd driven in was firmly in place over the town - so no Hardee's cruise-in. However, we salvaged a fun time and the whole Corn Feed crew hung out at Mezzodi's all night. Was great to see 67Shelby and S281SC who drove up to deliver the awesome license plate map to Dodgestang. That thing was AWESOME. Pictures do not do it justice!

Ronny, the owner at Mezzodi's, had a blast watching a great Stanley Cup final game - Penguins win! He particularly loved the enthusiasm the guys who drove all the way from Toronto had!

Wound up at Perkins at 3am with Dodgestang and Stroked66 before calling it a night. After all, we had to get up early to meet folks for the farmers market deal the next morning.

Saturday, a buddy of mine who runs Spaghetti Works opened up for just our crew and served us some breakfast and maybe even a much needed Bloody Mary for any who may have been hurting a little...

I had to rush around as did 1966Conv to get setup for the picnic at his house. Ty had our Grinder meat ready to go, which was awesome of him as he had to do so while rushing out of town for a vacation to Mexico! Headed up to 1966Conv's house, he and his wife were great hosts and it was great hanging out there for the afternoon.

70_Fastback ran into a little hiccup on his way for some ice cream, keeping the streak of mechanical mishaps at Corn Feeds alive and well.

The crew dove in and tried to help out as best they could, but alas, there was no easy fix to be had. Dodgestang went above and beyond the call of duty and set 70_Fastback up with a trailer ride home, with ObsidianSpider following in DT's 67 fastback. VMFers continue to amaze me with their generosity - kudos to Dodgestang for doing that, pretty awesome. Bummed that 70_Fastback had that gorgeous car of his break down, but it'll be back on the road soon!

I had to rush around and get the banquet presentation together, we had a fun time at the 'awards' ceremony.

Wound up calling it a Corn Feed at around 1am in the parking lot at the hotel. A fitting end to a fantastic time.

Thanks everyone! Great memories and good times. Sad to see another CF end, but looking forward to the next one for sure!

Hey everyone,

In order to give some recognition to people who are generous to contribute to the forum to help me keep it up, I have added three options for levels of support of VMF:

Platinum Support
This level of support includes special status flag, can edit own title, access to all classifieds for a year, can use HTML markup in posts (so you can post YouTube embeds, etc.), and can attach files to posts (up to 4 per post in classifieds).

Gold Support
This level of support includes special status flag, can edit own title, access to all classifieds for a year, and can use HTML markup in posts (so you can post YouTube embeds, etc.)

Bronze Support
This level of support includes special status flag and can edit own title.

I know it's not much, but at least it shows others that you're a contributor and it's another way I am trying to say thanks! You can find the options in the 'Subscription and Support Area' in the main navigation tabs.

So many have helped out in the past and I hope this allows at least a little something in return.

Also, keep in mind that supporting the advertisers really helps the forum in a big way too!

Thanks everyone!

Take a look and check it out.

Thanks!
