Would like to modify my '65 green dot C4 to a normal D-2-1 shift. From reading old threads I understand I need to swap the valve body to a 67-69 vintage. I'm reluctant to simply buy from a salvage yard (assuming a VB could be found). And having never worked on an automatic transmission rebuilding a VB is not something I'm comfortable trying.
So I'm curious about aftermarket, bolt-in options.
The PA26301 appears to be an obvious choice, although I don't need the "strip" side of the equation. Has anyone used this VB? Driving impressions?
I checked TCI's web site but could not determine which VB to use for 65-66 conversion. I don't want full manual.
One last thing. The transmission hasn't been touched in years but seems to work fine (a little leaking but I'm not sure of source). Since the VB will be swapped I guess it's not a bad idea to put it through a rebuild kit. How deep should the rebuild go? An owner on another Mustang forum recommended "Add to the master kit a front band, rear servo piston, new thrust washers kit and a selective thrust washer kit. I always install new bushings as well and there is a bushing kit that covers that." Seems like a buying a new transmission would be easier, and perhaps as cheap.
Thanks for any up front advice.
