Mini Tubs on a 65 Fastback?

I've got a 65 fastback that currently has 245/40/17's on the rear. Nowhere near enough meat for 652bhp/620tq-6000rmp. I would love to get 295 - 315's to fit. I'm thinking the only shot is with mini tubs and completely rolled lip. I definitely don't want to flare it but may land up doing a subtle custom 1" flare if needed.

The car has the Griggs Racing GR350 suspension so there's no leafsprings. The GR350 suspension does use the rear of the frame rails so they can't be moved. If I move the inner wheelhouses to the frame rail, I only gain about 1 - 1 1/2".

Couple of questions:

1. Anyone know if I can fit a 295+ without flaring?
2. Will the interior side panels need to be altered (I have a Shelby GT350 seat delete)

Thanks-

A guy on StangNet, mustbereel, used '67 outer wheel well housings on his '65 fastback and stretched the stock quarter panels over them. It gives a stock look with 1.5" more room. He did a really nice job of it. Here's a link - http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=656858 - go to post 14 for the quarter panel mods.

I did a mini-tub on my 66 coupe with a watts-link rear suspension. I have 315/45/17's on 17x10.5 rims with enough room to put 335's in at a later date. I didnt have to move the frame, just modify it a bit. It really worked out nicely. I will post some pics for you to look at.

I ran home at lunch. The guys name is Jason Johnson. I did a google search for Jason Johnson 65 fastback and this was the site I got that had the pictues. The mag did not have any rear interior shots, just front seat and one of the trunk, but you can not see anything, there is a HUGE amp back there that goes from wheel well to wheell well.

tsk tsk... an 8" wheel with a 275 tire?

Hahahahah

Offroad we are using 21" wide tires on 8 3/4" wheels, they look like Donuts, but perform well @ 2 psi

I'm right in the middle of doing this on my '65 because with a strong 351C, I need more hookup in the rear. I have 335/35s on a 17x11 wheel with a 4.75" backspacing. The 13.5" wide tires just don't fit up in the wheel wells. On the photo below on the right side, you can see where I had to trim off half of the framerail just to mock up the tire inside. It will require fabricating new framerails relocated about 1" inward. I am also not happy with the clearance on the outside of the tire and will bite the bullet and slightly narrow the rearend and move the framerails in a bit more. For a coupe, the seat will have to be narrowed and slight modifications to the interior panels. On a fastback, this is much more difficult, but workable.

Looks like a Griggs suspension. Did you install it?
