HELP! what is the difference between 302 & 351 distributor ?

I think I have been sent the wrong dizzy. I mic'd my OEM 302 distributor base (where it slides into the block) and it measures exactly 1.500".

The new dizzy won't even go down into the distributor hole. The base on it measures 1.546" - or 46 thousandths of an inch over.

Is this a machining error - or do I have a non 302 dizzy ?

351 dizzy is taller than the 302 dizzy due to taller block.

It rotates in the opposite direction, I'm told. If so, it's the gear.

The gears should be the same, except for hole in the center where the dizzy shaft goes through the gear. The engines rotate the same direction, so the teeth pattern are the same. You can swap cams with a 302 and 351W with no problems. When I was running my 351W, the cam was for a 289/302. I just had make sure I had the correct firing order.
