Although I don't know your interests, staying at your apartment sounds boring. When I was your age I lived in San Francisco, there were many cheap & fun things to do. Scenic lookouts, parks/picnics, and hiking were a great way to get to know someone. Any live street music/bands?
Are there any artistic-type of places nearby? In my town, there are 2 places where you can make, decorate, and fire pottery. It's fun, creative, and interactive. Something like that could give you some insight into your date's personality. (Crazy will come out really quick.)
Comedian Adam Corolla's philosophy is women care more about 'labor hours' than anything else. It's more valuable to write a poem than to buy a card. It's more valuable to pick wildflowers and make an arrangement that to buy a some roses. Keeping that in mind, you should have some options.
