70 Fastback Restomod Build

Hey, all. Just a little background on this build. I am helping a good friend rebuild this car from the ground up. He bought the car on EBay back in 2004 and it was supposed to be "in good condition". After 2 years of helping him replace half the front driver side frame rail, shock tower and nearly all the floor pans the car was finally in "good condition". We put in a 5.0 (carbed) with a T5 and a 9" with posi and 3.80 gears. He drove the car for all of about 1 summer and then decided to blow it all apart and paint it....while also starting a family with his new wife. Here we are 10 years later and finally finishing up all the sheet metal work and putting everything in SPI epoxy primer. Well enough talk....time for the pictures!!

Troy.

We decided to raise the fenders to better match the hood after trying several methods of re-shaping the contour of the hood.

Rear valance actually fit pretty well and only needed a few tweeks.

After all the welding, grinding, sanding and then more of the same we finally had the car back on it's wheels with most of the drivetrain installed to set the final gaps.

By the way, the little girl in the pics, my friend's daughter, wasn't even born when we pulled the car apart for paint. Crazy how some projects get drug out.

Once we we got all the gaps set we "referenced" the panels to their mounting points by drilling 1/8" holes in the panel and mounting area. Then we broke it all back down again for application of good ole SPI epoxy primer. We also picked up a turbine HVLP system and it's worked very well so far with very minimal over spray.
