I am trying to replace ball joints on 69 mustang. What tool produces the "waffle" effect when the rivets connect the upper control arm to the ball joint?

Might try a new framing hammer

On a more serious note, I don't believe its a specific tool but the shape of the striker on the press used. I've seen it done with a smooth striker that produced a related smooth head. Think its like a 10,000-20,000 lb press

If you do a search you should find one or two people that will do the rivet replacement for you
