Questions about interior lights

I am going to be installing a year correct, OE, (non air conditioning) console in my 65 fastback. The console has built in lights that I will make operational. My car (65 Fastback, 3 Speed) currently has two (2) underdash courtesy lights. Should the console lights work with and supplement the underdash courtesy lights, or do the console lights replace the underdash courtesy lights.

No the console light (inside the compartment) does not replace the under dash light and the rear light on the console only suppliments the under dash lights
