Hello- I'm new to the board, but have been eavesdropping for some time. I'm a Grad student in southern california, and I own a 66 A Code coupe that's very original and I'm slowly restoring everything. Anyhow, I've got a luggage rack that is in okay shape. I'm aware that there are repros made out of stainless. The one I have is chrome plated steel. Did Ford make these out of Stainless, or chrome plated steel? Also, I noticed that the repros only have 6 rubber bumpers across the back of the rack, whereas mine has 8. I want to get the one I have re-chromed, but if it's not original, I'll pass. Can anyone confirm what material was originally used on these racks? In advance, thanks, and I look forward to participating on this board.

I have an original ford NOS in the box in storage. It is at my parents, and I will look at it as soon as I am up there again. It was purchased in the late 70s, or early 80s, I think. From my memory, it is chromed metal, and not stainless. As for the rest, I will check it out later and let you know.

I looked at the NOS rack at my parents. It was in the box still, and my dad told me he got it in the 70s. The material is chromed metal, not stainless. Also, there are 8 rubber bumpers along the back, not 6. Yours sounds like an original. Hope this helps.

You're awesome! Thanks! I suspected it probably is was the original. Fortunately all of the mounting hardware (even the plastic fittings) are there and good. Again, thank you!
