Default Headrests for a '65 Hardtop

Is there any truth to this add that this style (or any) head rest was an option in 1965? If so, are they "Concourse correct" as stated? I've read that it was popular in 69 and up, but not much on 65-68.

Maybe a dealer option/add-on, but I've never heard of them coming out of the assembly line with them on. I'm sure someone will chime and correct me if I'm wrong though...

Yes, it's true, but only as a dealer ad on, I think. Actually that style is also listed in the -67 Mustang accessory catalogue. From mid -67 through -68 the add ons were this style:

So the Rotundas I linked to are concouse correct for a 65? One way or another I will add head rests. I'd be willing to pay the premium price if they are accurate for the car, otherwise I'll just get the less expensive TMI set. Thanks! Nice vert!

The 68 Cougar, Fairlane,Falcon, Montego, Mustang shop manual P18-45 shows the two post headrests. Dunno what this proves. I am a long time 68 Mustang fan and have never seen these on any of these. In 69 the headrest was changed to the flat single post that was used by Ford for many years.

Apparently the 2 post was a rare 68 only option...

The ones in the 65 Ford accessory catalog do not look like the ones above. There are like round tubes covered in vinyl. To tell you the truth, they would not be correct for an MCA Concours car. But, since I am an MCA certified judge, me, I'd overlook it. I figure you are adding a safety device that looks like it could have come from a dealer.
As with any accessory, don't over do it.

Yeah, I know, other judges and the MCA are welcome to thier opinion.

Really? Did you check the link in Dogface´s first post?

As said, the one I posted af pic. of, is the style after the round tube style ones. They came with instructions for both -67 and -68 cars.

I meant the ones that from the side, look like the shape of a "coma". And I have a set of those (67/68) that I bought for my Shelby, but, will likey install them when I do my 67 GTA

I'd like headrests on my 65 some day. Long ways to go before that, though.

"Rotunda" products are Genuine Ford Accessories and covered a plethora of stuff available over the dealer's parts counter from luggage racks to tissue dispensers to map lights to headrests, etc. To be concours correct the accessory would have had to been offered for that model year.

My brother's 64.5 'vert had different style headrests in it when he bought it in the early '80s. Given that they were Palomino, with old vinyl and piping a dead ringer for the original factory upholstery that was in the car, we always assumed they were a period dealer piece, especially given that Palomino was a pre-'66 only color.

They look similar, but not identical, to the '68-'69 piece- his are quite a bit more rounded at the top corners:

I think I'll just go with the TMI version. They look good and in the end will add to the safety. Although, I really like the Rotunda cylnder look, but the price is excessive. As always, thanks!

Yes. There was a "Dealer" optional set of Headrests for '65-'66. They were very cylindrical with bars. They were a Dealer option only. I think that examples can be found on Dave's Hawaiian Mustang website...

So, back to the original question: "are they concours correct"
My opinion - no. Some judges might not take points if as they are a safety item.
On the other hand. Cool to see at a show, but I wouldn't go installing the entire accessory catalog on a car and still exoect it to be "concours correct"
