Allen, I need to clean up some grease and get it. After work today I did start it. After sitting a couple/few years it did start up. No fuel line, so it was run about 10 second from gas dumped in the carb. Had my wife to the video, the only thing she said was this doesn't seem safe. Can post a video link is interested.

Thanks,

Joe

I may be interested if it's date code correct. Having issues with a block I rebuilt and would probably rebuild this one. I won't know for sure if my block is bad until tomorrow...

If I get another block, it needs to be 5Jxx date code.

Ok, it's dark here now, will try to get the code tomorrow if i can. I believe I need to pull the starter to see it. The cars serial number is like 145,363 so it's possible the block was built in 65.

You can also see the built date of the block on the driver's side of the block right below the head.

Engine block casting number

Post #20 shows it and describes where it is.

This will keep you from removing the starter.

My car is 135090 (so may be close).

MD, did you get a chance to check on the date code?

Thanks,

Allen

Sorry I had a family emergency and had to go out of town. Doesn't look like it will work for you. The date code is 3G6B, which doesn't seem right.

Well you managed to miss every number/letter I need...lol. I don't believe they made a 289 in 1963 (could be corrected).

Checked again this morning, in better light, first number is a 8 not 3. Looks like the block was changed over the past 50 years.
