You can laugh at my pain.
What can I do. I didn't know I was hiring the 3 freaking Stooges. They didn't seem like special people when I meet them.
I didn't sleep at all last night worrying about this.
I will try to post pictures later tonight.
This morning the stress eased a little. I came to the conclusion that this situation could be worse. I could have foundation walls way too thin, and not deep enough. This is not a problem now.
All I am required to do for my local building code. Is this. A trench footing. It must be 42" deep from grade, because of frost line. It must be 8" wide.
My city doesn't care if I over build. THANK GOD.
I went with Michigan State code. It read 12" wide footing walls, for a structure 2 stories tall. I was approved for 8" .
The contractors failed the first inspection of the trench depth, due to some cave ins. So they dug 48" and passed.
Then they had to dig deeper to get all the clay muck out. Then they filled the trench with 3 yards of 3" stone, compacted, and brought the depth back to 48".
The forms that blew out did so on the inside of the walls, not the outside. There are now areas where the walls are 12-16"s thick.
They poured from back to front.
They built a metal grate bridge over the front so the could get the buggy in the back of the lot. They didn't schedule the cement correctly, and did not get the forms completed for the front of the garage.
Well the cement truck UNION (!%@$#%%) screwed things up also. The truck operator informed them, he could not work after 6:30 p.m.. Since the driver was going to leave. He was not going to wait for forms to be put up. Or should I say, what these buffoons consider forms.
They decided to pour the front footing as wide as the trench.
The trench is 3 feet wide. The front corners are almost 24" wide.
GENIUS! Well somewhere in this universe it is. SARCASM!
Then! They short themselves. WONDERFUL, of course they did.
Now. Today they have to tie in another 3 yards of cement in the front.
Good damn thing I was there watching the circus. I told them they better start throwing some rebar into that trench, so they have something to tie into. They did.
So after today. They will have used 20 yards of cement, on a job that required 15 yards.
The front of the garage is almost 3ft wide.
So now I have the Fort Knox of garage foundations. Not even EL Chapo could dig himself out of my garage.
Amazingly it is level and square. Even if it is a little wavy. It is all below grade, so I will never see it again. There is 1 course of block going in also.
I am glad this is almost over. I don't know how much more stupidity I can take. They better not F up ONE more thing.
Because, I have access to their excavator, a big hole in the ground, dirt, and cement. LOL.
