F!U! DTE and Ticketmaster! F!U! RANT ON!

If I was a lawyer I would SUE the hell out of these people.
The second tickets went on sale this morning I bought tickets to a concert. The group was TOOL.
Not even 1 second into the sale and ALL the pavilion seats were SOLD OUT. FU/BS. Why? Scalper companies bought all the seats pre-sale and then jacked up the prices over 100%.
I got lawn tickets. BUT F THIS BS!
This should be illegal!
THE BANDS should also FIGHT THIS CRAP. It is the fans that suffer.
RANT OFF!

Ticketb@stard and scalpers are the reason why Pearl Jam stopped using them entirely in the '90s.

I know for my recent U2 purchase, you couldn't buy tickets for resale...because you don't get the actual tickets until you show up at the door, credit card used to purchase them in hand. It's going to be a cluster, but it stops the scalpers and resellers, and keeps the tickets in the hands of real fans.

I hate Ticketb@stard, and I even used to work for them.

Pearl Jam tried to fight them years ago, some success, but the industry wouldn't rally around their ideas.

Part of the problem with DTE is all the seat licenses they sell to rich people, comanies, etc. Most of the seats are sold before the season even starts, and they get first dibs on those tickets. So, that takes away the majority of good seats there. Makes it really tough to get good seats, unless the band gets some seats in their deal, and they then sell those to the Fan Club members.
Iron Maiden has gone ticketless for a few years now to take on the scalpers, and as long as you have the credit card you bought the ticket with, it works fine. Considering TicketBastard is in collusion with scalpers, they aren't going to try to find a fix, and they still own the industry. How the Feds ever let that happen is beyond me.

There's a few tricks to get better seats. Online, if you open 2 separate browsers (different even, like Firefox and chrome), log in to get the tickets, and keep refreshing the pages. Sometimes the immediate rush ties up lots of tickets, and they get thrown back to the pile, so you might find great seats even 10 or 15 minutes after the onsale time.
The other thing you can do at DTE, is get there and hang out at the box office to see if any seats get released that day. Often times the band will give the venue back seats they didn't use, and some great seats can be had like that. Since you have lawn seats, you know you have a ticket, and lawn seats there usually aren't too expensive to waste if you can get something good in the pavilion. Believe it or not, I got the last 2 seats for Ozzfest there when it was Sabbath and Priest, and I didn't get there til 4pm. The last 2 seats they had in the pavilion were FRONT ROW. Had to buy them both even tho I didn't need both, but I turned around and sold one to someone standing behind me. Keep checking on tickets right up to the day of the show (I hear Wed is the best day to check) and you might find something pop up. Happy Hunting.

It turned out for the best anyway. My friend who is going prefers lawn for some very important medical reasons.
Also.
Lawn tickets were going for TWICE what I paid on other websites like scalpify.
A coworker of mine bought lawn tickets at about $150.00 per ticket.
I paid $45.00 a piece. Plus fee's it was like $62.00 a piece. The show was sold out in like 15 minutes.
That should just be illegal.

I actually prefer the lawn for most shows but I pretty much quit going to shows when the handling fee jumped to $15. A $15 fee on a $45 ticket seems crazy to me.

It's ****ing deplorable that Ticketmaster allows this to happen. Tried to get Coldplay tickets but couldn't get tickets scalped at 2-3 times the price. It's unfortunate because it really excludes a lot of fans.

The only thing more deplorable is the act has a choice to not let this happen, and they choose not to. I went to a Garth Brooks show in Grand Rapids (he was there three nights in a row) and this **** wasn't allowed, as was mentioned earlier, you had to show up as the original purchaser of the tickets.

1969sag, at least you have taste in music. It's much cheaper than some of the current pop groups. Have you seen what Bieber or Gaga tickets go for? I wouldn't go to one of those shows, if given a free back stage pass.
As a veteran of literally hundred of concerts (yes, I can say that I saw all of the good bands). I'm pretty much done with the concert scene. The only ones I have lined up for this year is Rock on the Range (3 day festival) and Skynrd. I have lawn tickets for both, since I've gotten tired of the up front crush/hassle. I'd rather kick back on the lawn and watch/listen to the bands, instead of getting kicked in the head by a crowd surfer or getting too close to the Mosh Pit.
My advice, find small venues. The prices and audiences are usually better. Heck, or local casino has free concerts all of the time (I just can't get SWMBO to go with me to see A Flock of Seagull's for some reason).

Agree, if I had to pick one corporation to just completely, utterly, and irrevocably destroy, it would be Ticketmaster. I HATE that group so much.

I don't appreciate the scalping.
I don't appreciate the $15 rape fee.
I don't appreciate the artificially high ticket prices.

The whole thing is just ****ed up. The only bands I've been able to go see recently were Iron Maiden and Motley Crue, both of whom specifically dictated that their ticket prices could not be increased and both of whom sold through sources other than Ticketmaster. I also got to see the Doobie Brothers / Journey, but just because I was a walk-up and they were offloading tickets at the door.

It's a real shame because I legitimately think that Ticketmaster is singlehandedly a huge factor contributing to the decline of our music culture. Unless you like niche smaller bands, it is really difficult to be able to go see more than a couple concerts a year because it just isn't affordable. Fortunately, I am mostly in the metal scene and those shows are definitely a lot cheaper than more standard rock.

Don't blame Ticketmaster or DTE, blame the buttholes that buy the tickets from scalpers. If there was no demand, there would be no supply.

I RE*EFFING*FUSE to buy a ticket for one penny beyond face value. If everyone did the same, there'd be no money in it for the scalpers. The only way I'd buy a scalper's ticket is if was at least .01c below face value.

Mohegan Sun Indian Casino in CT is the worst. Being a sovereign nation, I believe they get away with stuff that no one else can. Last year I ran into the same thing you did; on line at 10:00AM for the fan "pre-sale" and the band apparently sold out the arena in seconds. Strangely, at 10:01AM there were THOUSANDS of tickets on the secondary market at 10X face value. Seems to me Mohegan Sun has a wink/nod deal with the scalpers.

It's not just Mohegan Sun - all the venues do it. It was the same for the aforementioned U2 tickets I got - that were SUPPOSED to only go to registered U2.com members. They actually said that if you're caught relisting member-only presale tickets, not only would you lose the tickets, but they'd ban you from the site (not sure how that would happen).

Totally off topic, but is Mohegan Sun worth it to visit? It was built after I moved away, and I'll be in New London in June and might have some time on my hands.

I was going to mention Eric Church but see Huntingky already has. The thought that you just won't buy a ticket is not going to work. If it's a popular venue, the tickets will get sold and you will be left without a ticket (someone will buy them). You shouldn't be allowed to buy a block of tickets beyond a certain number (4 - 6) and there needs to be a better vetting process. My wife and I like to go to concerts (Kenny Chesney especially) and are members of his website. We have gotten some good tickets before so maybe that is one way to do it.

I'm with 1969sag though, to take the time and make sure your are where you need to be to buy the tickets as soon as they become available and then within seconds there are none, is total BS.

Hmm.. To be honest, I've never been to any other casino so I have no reference with which to base an opinion on. My brother goes to Vegas often and he says the pay outs on the slots is much higher in Vegas than at private Indian casinos. The casino itself is nice. Lots to do - restaurants, bars etc, watching mindless drones completely devoid of expression feeds the slots, women decades past their prime trying to look 25 again...
