On one of our construction job sites last night, they broke into our Sea-Train, office trailer, and our wire pulling trailer. Made off with 20 to 30 thousand worth of tools and equipment, not to even bring up loss of time and labor this morning. This isn't the first time, we've been hit before but this crap is really starting to piss me off. Sure we can turn it into our insurance but next year they will jack up our rates, that will increase our cost, in turn make our bid's higher and trying to compete with non union and people that don't even understand cost even more of a impossible task. Damn I'm tired .

Talking to our Insurance man he said we are not alone and they expect it to get worse. They have been plagued by thefts in construction.

They had at least 5 people doing the "rip off" last night, they covered the camera and defeated the alarm system. The sheriff said it was an inside job. They hit every trailer on the job site and cleaned every one out. They even brought there own trailer's to hall the stuff off. Most likely they will get a tenth of what it cost us.

What is sad is it get's passed on to everyone, just like stores pass it on in higher prices, an add on to cover theft. We get to pay for their "free stuff". WE get to pay higher auto insurance to cover auto theft. The insurance companies do not operate at a loss, stores don't, any business can't and survive, they pass it on to us.

That sucks! It feels like everyone besides yourself has their hand on your wallet one way or the other. I agree it's getting out of control.

Can you get security guards and just factor them into the price of the job? I don't know what else you can do other than sleep on the roof with a gun next to you.

Really sucks to think a worker showing up the next day to earn a living from you could be the one responsible for it. :pissed: This kind of crap makes you understand why old people are grumpy. I know I'm getting grumpier every day. In fact, I've recently progressed from the "a$$hole" level to the "bastard" level. My poor wife.

Sorry to hear that Dave. You're right thought, thefts at construction job sites are way up. I don't have any answers but I do sympathize. Let's hope they catch the rat bastards.

sorry to hear about your loss---I had a contractor here in Illinois tell me that most of the tools stolen from job sites are in Mexico before you get a police department called---I am glad to hear you are a union company---they are getting fewer and fewer here--I have been a teamster for 13 years ---mixer driver---hope it works out for you!
hang in there

I have to laugh even though it's not funny. Years ago we did a waste water treatment plant, we had a 40ft big rig trailer on the job site, yep full of tools and equipment. They took the whole trailer. There was a night watch man, he didn't see anything. :naive:

There was a second trailer next to it for material, left it.

Dave, I feel the pain. I just lost $2000.00 in screws off our job site and L brackets that hold up Girts. Has delayed the job over a week ,waiting for replacements. Meanwhile the inspection deadline gets closer and if we miss it I loose my permit and have to start over paying another $2500.00 just for this item. I have 80 % of my steel framing up and all I can do is hope that things speed up and if those Bas*#@ (well you get the point) our found I could at lease hang them by there (Blank) from my trusses. :wall:

That really ticks me off when anyone too lazy to work steals. :pissed: I've had it happen to me. Thieves hurt everyone and they're sorry Bast****. A friend had his construction trailer ripped off twice and it forced him out of business the last time. Have I mentioned I hate thieves. Sorry for your loss and I hope they get caught.
