Dear @all,

I need to replace a leaking axle seal on my '68 9" axle. Oil is leaking into the brake drum. So far as I remember I need to remove the 4 retainer screws that hold the axle retainer and the brake-backing plate to the axle.

Does the backing plate and the brake cylinder need to come off, too?? Or is it posible to remove the seal w/o disconnecting the wheel brake cylinder??

Thank you!!

I've done it both ways. It's just easier without all the brake parts in the way! Good time to check the parts too.
No need to remove the brake cylinder!
