OK, when I did the service on my 7.3 PS I changed the fuel filter first. Had to break it to get it off. It is in many many pieces. So I cleaned the bowl and engine bay out and installed the new one. then I started the truck and it ran fine. The problem was the oil pressure gauge flickered and then dropped to zero. The light came on.
So I thought that maybe since I needed to change the oil anyway, that the truck was a bit low. I. like a dumb a$$ didn't bother to check first. I drained the oil and took many hours, but finally got the oil filter off. I started the truck.
The oil pressure took a long time to come up on the gauge. The needle flickered up and down. When I give it gas it goes down and to zero. If I let it idle it shows strong oil pressure.
It sounds normal to me. What should I check? Could my oil pump be going out? Could be just a sensor? It does have 192k on the odometer. Should I tow it to a tech?

The EOP sensor on the front of the top of the engine is right where I was working. I think I may have messed up the wires that go to it. Does this sensor feed the gauge?

The EOP sensor in front of the fuel filter got broken. The oil pressure is fine, the sensor needs replacing and then, it wil be all good!

I was going to suggest to check all plugs/connections near the fuel filter. I bought my power stroke used and the last person that owned the truck some how cracked thefuel filter lid, so the 1/2" socket wrench wouldn't work to take it off I had to used channel locks to spin the cap off. Good thing the new filter came with a lid.
It's always good to find a problem quickly, without spending money trying to fix a problem when your not sure what the probelm is. You could have driven yourself crazy trying to figure out what went wrong.

there is a fantastic diesel truck forums called Diesel Forum - The Diesel Stop.com I just changed my fuel pump after reading a few threads I was confident that I wouldnt have any troubles and didnt. Check it out there is a good mod section that show a bunch of little things that can be done to our trucks to get more HP out of them,

Hehehe...I spent hours today at the Napa and dealership in order to find out what the part is. Funny thing I knew what it was and kept telling them. they didn't believe me. the guy at NAPA even got a wrench and removed the part to compare it to the pics on the screen.
Well after all that there isn't one anywhere in town. There is one South of me in St. George at the Parts Plus and the Dealership. Good thing I was planning on going to SG tomorow to promote my new business as a tour operator. I will get the part and make a ton of sales calls too. Man I hate cold calling businesses! Some of them are so fricking rude. I gues they forgot what it was like to start out.
This parts chase is too funny!

Heh! I have pretty good patience for most things but I tell you it drives me nuts to deal with a parts guy that cant figure out what part is what. I guess it comes from having a Dad that was one of the best around for many years. But as always you have to grin and remember that they are just a person trying to make a buck like the rest of us.
I like the the standard question they have to ask before they can proceed with trying to look up a part.
I need a fuel filter for my 97 f250 powerstroke
th
em: does it have air
yes
them: does it have auto or manual trann
auto
auto
them: does it have a/c
Yes
them: 4x4 or not

Ok hers it is got to laugh or I might cry. most of the time I have the part numbers wrote down on a pad.
