I read that this morning. Good news! Someone in the Netherlands is pretty upset, though.

I don't think I would mind if we had a law that all VW microbuses must be exported to the Netherlands.

Love how simplistic those old Microbuses were. Creature comforts were -- wait a minute--- what creature comforts? Oh yeah, they had roll down windows anyways...LOL
You never saw them on the highway, though. Those 35 or 45 hp flat fours were working their guts out getting up to 50 or 60 MPH at best.

Gee.....a Deadhead tune on the AM radio and a funny-looking cigarette and one would be all set.

So the police are calling the restoration shop in AZ a victim. That shop was PLANNING to sell the vehicle overseas, but hadn't yet. Can you imagine being in their shoes? You throw a heap of money at your car to restore it, then pay to get it shipped to a bunch of potential buyers overseas just to have customs agents discover it was stolen then take possession. Now Allstate Insurance will title it, auction it and pocket the crazy profit. That claim they paid out in 1976 was probably $700.

What a bummer for everyone!

I read the LA Times story on this and they reported that Allstate paid the claim $2,500 and now its worth $25,000......No wonder they want it back.................
