I'm an "agriculturalist" by trade and a model hobbyist when time allows. Now the stang is basically in storage till next year (will drive occasionally when weather permits, maybe a short project later), I usually turn to honey do's and indoor modeling. Here is some stuff I've done in the last couple of years. Some models are wild, others originalish. All are "restomods" of some sort.
John Deere looking tractor turned dragster.
John Deere 4960 with scratch built 4600 plow. Powered with LED's.
John Deere 5020 with 4200 Plow. Cab and plow are scratchbuilt.
John Deere SideHill Combines. I built a pair of these.
My Favorite: John Deere twin engine Salt Flats Racer.
Before:
After:
Lil hotrod Ford Jubilee tractor
First scratchbuilt 10-wheeler HO scale steam locomotive. Everything was hand built except the running gear and tender. Also my first foray into painting and weathering locomotives with water based paint using an airbrush.
Restored Rivarossi "flat nose" cab forward locomotive. It originally had a later style cab front, which I modified for the early version.
I like doing these projects since it helps me visualize things better when I'm restomodding on the mustang. Plus I can get crazy when I want to on models, where I have to practice restraint elsewhere!
Holy crap those are awesome! Keep up the good work!

Those are really cool! Do you have a place in your house where you display them when you're done? Because that's quite a collection.
When I'm not playing with the Mustang I'm either working on my book, working on my art (gotta show coming up, so I need to produce) or lately because the weather is so awesome, I'm mountain biking EVERY day.

Dude...who does all that junk to a Deere? Seriously though, I've been spending my spare time spinning wrenches on an IH 1066 with a 640ci DT466 in it, that's an obsession, uh, I mean hobby that I can dig.
I do more thinking about mustanging than I do mustanging, wish I had a garage!
I think you have more artistic talent in your pinky finger than I have in any bone in my body...keep it up man!

Once upon a time I bought a boat and really enjoyed fishing. Difficult to fish around work schedules, weather, and your fishing buddies work schedules. Sold the boat and bought yet another old car to tinker with. I want to buy a boat again tho when I retire. Then I don't have to wait for weekends, can wake up any given weekday morning, look out the window to check the weather and say its a beautiful day, I think I'll call up one of my other retired buddies and go to the lake.
Before we sold our house when I wasnt working on the Mustangs, I would be out in the barn doing my woodworking building some kind of furniture.

Really nice stuff--I especially like the trains. I was into N gauge a while back, but don't have the space now. Still do a little woodworking when time permits, but seems that between work and the Mustangs, not too much time left.

nice work on the models. Sign of your attention to detail.
In the 'off season' I'm usually working. However, year round I have the other time occupy-ers to keep me away from Mustang-ing:
1) Fixin up der other cars - I do almost all my own repairs - latest project will be to tear down the turbo in my 2003 F250 Powerstroke - it's sticking
2) Boy Scouts - I'm involved in my son's alma mater Troop, finishing up my Wood Badge ticket, and sitting on Eagle Scout Board of Reviews monthly
3) Bowling - Every other Sunday night, a group of us from our Church get together and bowl. All funds raised are turned into the Church. We raise about $250 - 300 every 4-6 months.
4) Golf - I try to get out and golf once a month
5) remainder of my time is spent with family (both sides of the family live within an hour of us - that means we're out at some sort of family function once to twice a month)
other than those things, my life is spent working...... and getting to and from the work.

Every one of these models, and many others were all sold...., to buy mustang parts I was able to help SWMBO take a trip last winter with the sale of the HO steam loco's. I'm not a collector from the standpoint that finished product stays in the house... I do have quite a collection of half completed projects tho...!
This is the only exception. I'll never sell this model. Its a "working" model John Deere 55 combine I built over 15 yrs ago. I had the real version of this machine and used it to thresh pinto beans. Had the chance to build this to 1/16th scale when I got a drafting job and access to free parts and machining. 400 hours later I had a working combine, ie., its motorized and all the visible components rotate. The motor resides in the engine itself and has a working power take off. The combine is completely scratchbuilt and is not a modification of an exsisting model or toy. Currently sits in my office at work.
Greasing the bearings and changing drive belts prior to a toy tractor show....set a record and ran the combine continuously for over 2 hours!
Hey, thanks for the kudo's guys! It also nice to read about what others do with their spare time too.
The off-season is halfway over and we are working on a product launch at work. Looks like model making is going to take a back seat to work somewhat for now. Am finishing up some more HO loco's to sell, to pay off the stang parts I bought last fall!!
