Question 05 Mustang Vert Leaking!

My neice has an 05 6cyl vert and with ALL the rain in SoCal this past week she noticed water pouring out on the passenger side floor and firewall. Does anyone know what might be causing this? I have thought about AC drain and leaves and gunk plugging up the cowl area. I wish I could help her out more but us in the midwest have other water{freezing} problems.

My first inclination was to say "a hole" but after thinking about it, there are a lot of things that could be causing it. Without seeing the car it would be tough to tell you other than try to back track from the floor up to see if you can determine the source. Another thing you could try would be to run a hose over the car in specific places (not just a fan over the whole thing) to see if you can recreate the leak.

Nice to see Ford still sticks to the original Mustang cowl leak formula.

Yeah, but that and the bolt pattern on the wheels are about the only things they have in common

Th '05 and up Mustang has a cabin air filter in the RF firewall area accessed through the cowl trim IIRC. There may have been so much water coming in (from what I saw on TV!) that the filter in the cowl could have been dislodged. It is also possible the filter was replaced during routing maintenance and not secured properly, allowing the water in...

Thanks for the all the ideas. I have given them to my brother and he will foward them on. Since I've read all these I have to check my 06 for the cabin filter. I also think by taking the cowl vent off that would make access to any litter under that piece.

There's a cabin filter? Hmm. Didn't know that.

This has been covered many, many times over in the late model forums.
It was a problem on 05 and 06 models with a seal not being correctly installed in the cowl area on the passenger side..
Ford dealers werent much help to most people.
you may try checking into a couple of the forums and ask or do search or two.
I think that 5.0 was one of the sites that i followed back in 2006 or 2007. there seemed to be quite a few ideas on the fix.

if you go to ford.com they have a forum & one topic is this seal & gives you a part # to buy from autozone or somewhere like that that fixes the problem./

I took mine apart today. Found the air filter and the cowl drain with leaves plugging it. Purchased the filter from a local parts store for $25. Vaccumed the drain, cleaned under the plastic cowl and put it back together. The hardest part was removing the cowl vent.
