Amen, I totally agree with everything you said.

It IS about the money, and being able to pull people over to search for more infractions.

If it wasn't about the money, then we should have a new law stating that you can't eat over a certain amount of calories each day, AND if you go over your ideal weight you will pay $100 for each pound over.

Hey its all about safety right? Heart attacks are a MAJOR killer in the US, and ticketing people who are overweight would help tax payers, and insurance companies from having to pay all of those hospital bills for the people that don't have insurance.

Anyone see where this is going, our freedoms {as long as were not hurting anyone else} to do what we want is very sacred.

Is that all?
The fine here in Cali is $100+ ......add on all the fees and surcharges and you're looking
at $300 something.
Friend of mine got one of those not long ago. They should post the REAL cost. Maybe
there would be less hands-on phone talking while driving. Or probably not.....

a ticket gotten out state is reported to your home state and a moving violation goes on your record. that lawyer is a blithering dumb(foto of a donky) for telling you not to pay the ticket. good thing you paid it else you have a warrent out for your arrest. back in the 80's i got a ticket out of state and didnt pay it. i went to get my license renewed and was taken into custody and locked in a cell. i had to call a freind to come bail me out. the bail was the amount of the fine plus other cost and late fees. the state of Iowa had sent the ticket info to missippi and was on my record. when i didnt pay the ticket the state of Iowa issued a warrent for my arrest. had i not ben able to get bailed out of jail i would have ben shipped to an Iowa jail to serve a sentance. that was around 1981 or 1982 before the age of the computer network that we have. the same long arm of the law has grabbed a few of my friends off the road and thrown them in jail for not paying out of state tickets. btw you and everyone in your car should have your seat belts on. i have made several freind including some dates get out of my cars when the refused to wear the seat belt. i hear about people being killed here in los angeles in car wrecks everyday. never does a week go by without it being reported that some of the ones killed were thrown from the car cause they were not wearing a seat belt. complain all you want but your at fault and being a cry baby for not obeying the law. that $400.00 ticket is suppose to wake up people ESPECIALY LAZY PARENTS who dont buckle up their children ! i think the fine for not wearing a seat belt should be $10,000.00 and suspension of your license for 30 days ! if you dont like it then wear your seat belt !

No. Remember "cruel and unusual punishment"? By the constitution, punishments are supposed to be fair and just.

$10,000 and a 30 day suspension is not a fair punishment for choosing to put your own life at risk.

Whether the state has the right to make you wear a seat belt depends on someone's own poltical views, so I'm not going to get into that. But the punishment needs to be fair.

DUIs are starting to cost several thousand dollars to resolve. But being drunk at the wheel is putting more than your own life at risk, now isn't it?

I'd let the lawyer choose....pay the $700 for me or see you in court for malpractice.

The problem I have with all of these state laws , is they fine you and then you get a bigger out ragious fine if you don't pay it on time. If a typical business person sent someone a bill for work performed and it was not pd on time , he can charge a resonable fee for being late but if they did what the states do , they would be hauled inot court for unfair billing practices and made to pay it back. Trust me it has happend . I find it always interesting that the Gov can and will do what so ever they want but don't you dare try it ! You will go to jail for what they do.
I believe in wearing a seat belt and wearing safty equipment but we should not be made to wear it. Isn't it interesting that in mich you do not have to wear a helmet for motorcycles , but you have to wear a seat belt in a car?

He followed the advice and ignored it only to receive another notification with an additional $300 late fee for a total due of $700.
Anyone here from CA who could give him some guidance on this.

I was a little shocked at the $400 ticket charge, I was stopped once here in NY for not wearing mine ( didn't bother because I was making numerous stops our small town and didn't bother buckling up between one of the stops). Even though my ticket was dismissed because an affidavid was not issued and the officer did not appear in court, I have heard that fines for not wearing a belt is about $125. Could the $400 fine in CA be due to the number of passengers not wearing belts? I didn't ask how many weren't.
Thanks
I hope the attorney put that in writing..............if he even travels on a plane to calif he will get hooked & booked as he deplanes when it goes to warrant- and it will.

It's not about "safety", it's about power and money. Whatever happened to personal responsibility? This Nation has slowly turned into a nanny state that thinks for everyone and tries to control everything.

Only the political jackasses of this Country could make a law that requires the use of a seat belt while in a car, but says it's OK to ride a motorcycle without a helmet.

Me personally, I have always chosen to wear a seat belt in a car and a helmet on a bike. Not because some jackwad at the State or Fed level said so, but because I thought it was a good idea.

Nanny state indeed.

Political jackasses? Who do you think lobbies for laws like this? Look at your neighbors. Good, bad, or indifferent, in this country we generally get what we ask for. Trying to point the finger for things we don't like at politicians or anyone besides ourselves is missing the point.

Like I said earlier, I actually went to the Capitol and watched the debate on my state's seat belt law. Whether they were right or wrong, there were a lot of passionate folks- citizens, not politicians- who'd worked long and hard to get that bill passed. Chalking it up to gov't greed or creeping tyranny is missing the point altogether. Just like the day the bill was passed, there is not a damn thing on the planet stopping opponents from working to prevent and/or repeal it, but those folks were and are nowhere to be seen.

Government is run by those who bother to show up. Those who don't bother usually have a complicated rationalization to make them feel better about it.

We should all wear our seatbelts, but wow $400 bucks? In WI it is either $10 or $25. The land of the fruits, nuts and flakes. Glad I don't live there. Between the regulations and taxes, I guess they have weather going for them though.
