Is there a way to keep outdoor cats from marking their territory?
First let me say that I love cats, and have one sitting beside me as I write this. So please refrain for using comments about doing harm to these animals.
This isn't a problem for our cat as he has been neutered, but outdoor cats routinely mark just about anything left on the front porch, including shoes, pillows on the swing etc.
I was thinking there is some kind of commercial spray, or home remedy to fix the problem.........thanks.

i respect your right to love cats but after i came out one morning to find claw marks going up the side of my not even 24hr old paint job on the 67 im not a big fan. but since it was my mom's cat i had to resort to more humane means than i wanted to at the moment, "havaheart critter ridder" seems to work great. just spray it around the area you want to rid the critters and they stay away. it doesnt really stink either, i personaly thought it smelled of cinnamon. most groccery stores carry it.

If you have a Tractor Supply store, pick up some Critter Rid. It's supposed to keep all kinds of animals away. I've used it for groundhogs digging under my deck. I haven't seen one, yet this year.
I also heard heard mothballs or mothball flakes keeps them away.
They also make small animal traps, but I'm not sure how effective they are with cats.
Good luck. I'm in the same situation here. I have an indoor cat, and still can't stand outdoor cats roaming around my house, killing the birds and rabbits.
I have heard that red pepper sprinkled around will also make them stay away once they get it on their paws one time and lick it. They will remember the smell and stay away.
gwstang- if cats are anything like tigers the pepper wont work. tigers love pepper... they hate cinnamon
