This thread is bringing up great memories for me. Back in the the Mark was valued much less than the Dollar. We were having the guys lucky enough to be stationed in Germany buy us Porsche racing parts at 60-50% less then we would pay in US.Plus the the military shipping was super cheap.! Guys were buying used 911's for the price of a 69 Mustang. but you could only ship one.

Fein is another good tool company. Although, I'm not sure if Fein is German. (Could be Austrian?)

Shoot, pretty much everything I've ever seen that was German made was excellent. US manufacturers could learn a lot from German manufacturers. Instead of trying to compete with cheap, Chinese products, US companies should focus on high quality that's not easily duplicated.

Grin

I lived in Bad Kreuznach, Germany from '81 to '87. I know several US service members that bought Porsches when the DM was >3 to a $1.

I miss the good food

and....

Kinder eggs

I keep looking for a good source to buy these for my kids. I guess they cant sell them here because American kids would probably choke to death on the little toys thet put in them.

Weizenbier! I've made several trips through US Customs with nothing but the clothes on my back and a few racks strapped onto a luggage dolly. They've never once harrassed me.

And of course Kinder eggs. My wife is down to her last few. Customs will seize them like they are Cuban cigars, here.

I have Snap-On SAE tools and Hazet Metric tools, inherited some of each from my Grandfather and have stuck with both for most new hand tool acquisitions. Yes, Snap-On is certainly a bit exotic in Germany just as Hazet is perceived by some here.

This settles it. I'm stopping at the beer store on the way home tomorrow for some Maisel's Weisse Kristall.

All I needed was a thread like this to twist my arm....

68-70 VW Busses are here but very expensive and more expensive when you want a samba or 10 window. But you really can get very good restored and original ones here thatīs true. If you have the money buy now because in some years they are unaffordable.

Kinder eggs lol, because of the choc or the egg? Because when you like the choc you can buy kinder chocolate or some other things, do you have milka oreo chocolate? Very good choc ;-)

You can get the Kinder chocolate bars at World Market here in the US, but not the eggs. They were just a fun diversion when I was a kid living in Germany. Great small item to stuff in the kids stocking at Christmas or just a treat to toss a kids for no specific reason.

I do know a couple friends that smuggle them back in their carry-ons when they are in Germany.

That reminds me. My brother just got stationed over there somewhere near Graff. (Army). I bet I can get him to mail me some.

In the winter they will proably make the trip without melting.
