I think the "reality" shows have messed things up as far as trying to sell things go. People see these shows where Rick from Pawned Stars lowballs the Hells out of people, to the point of insult, then they think they can do the same thing.

Not to mention the blatantly fake show where the two guys trade up on Craigslist from a pack of gum to a 68 Shelby. Again people see that show, and think its real, and that they can do the same thing.

Yep its really out there. For example I can remember an episode where they {at the end of the show} traded a log splitter that retails new for approx $1.5k for a new 4 wheel ATV. approx $4k to 6k.

I think the show is called "Trade Men". They ALWAYS trade up, NEVER down, which from all of my dealing with trying to trade I find that most people want you to trade down.

I have to agree, unless the ad states "price is firm" or something along those lines, I make a low offer and try to work to a fair agreed price but I have gotten some really good deals like that. When it comes to selling, sometimes I say "obo" and other times I say FIRM. But when I say "FIRM", that's the price.

NEVER hurts to ask, if if the seller states no trades, he may just jump at what you have, all the seller has to do is say no. Maybe you meant no trades, but you really had no idea that he actually has a (insert item here) that you really really do in fact want.

I have a strict CL policy and has served me well.

1. No holds. First cash-in-hand gets it. If you want it so bad, get here first.
2. No haggling over the internet/phone. Price is the price, I do negotiate but only once you've seen it in person.
3. If you leave a cash hold, you must sign my waiver stating you will pick it up by so-n-so. It is not a deposit, it's a paid hold to take my sale down. All proceeded go to me.
4. No I will not leave my plates, keep it in my name, tow it for you, swap parts, or let you drive it without me in the car or any other monkey BS.
5. If I reject your terrible offer, do not get nasty. Please feel free to make a counter offer or be on your way.

That's verbatim how I do my sales on stuff.
