Default 1967 Ford Fairlane header sugesstion 460

Hey guys.... I realize this is not a mustang but this has been the most helpful forum I have found..... I have a customer with a 1967 ford fairlane that has a 460 transplant.... It was a 390 car but have found out these heads have different exhaust patterns.... We want to install headers on the 460 and was wondering if anyone on here may have a sugesstion? He is looking at motor home headers and I am sure thats gonna make my life very difficult if not imposssible.... Car has power steering gear if this should change anything...........

I doubt you'll find an off the shelf header that is going to work in that application as the 429/460 engine never came in that body. And the 390 (FE engine family) is totally different engine than a 429/460. You might be able to modify a 429/460 from another application to work.

Try Crites Restorations. They have many performance products for Ford Fairlanes, particularly engine swap hardware.

Thanx for the input guys... Ya I think crites is the way to go at this time..... Another question This was a 390 car... Now he was talking I need to use their motor mounts ( frame side ) to use their headers.... Now I am no ford expert at all I admit I am a Chevy guy things swap around so much easier.... Is it time for me to call them and ask these questions Was hoping someone here has done this swap so I can have further insight as to what I am getting into.... Big block FE does not cross to the 429/460 for engine location.... Is this right He already has the engine installed on the 390 mounts... It doesnt look GOOD.. The valve cover is smashed into the brake power booster..... I want to get him straightend out..... I am sure we can run a smaller booster to fix that issue....however it is not going to help with header fitment issues, trans crossmember issues and the such.... I have not taken the car in yet... trying to make an estimate to make it a turn key and make smiles for the owner... and keep my hair from getting grayer..... Thanx for all the help... Take it easy on me... I am still building a FORD....

About all they do is engine swaps and engine swap headers. They probably
are well versed in what you're doing.....
They were the "go to" source for that stuff when I was at JBA. And that's
saying something, because we built our own headers and exhaust in-house
when I worked there.

Those mounts might fix the booster issue.

Agreed.... Thats what I am trying to relay to the owner... Its a very nice car and want to finish it right.... I think he is gonna pull out on me.... I am sure he thinks I am running him up with things HE DOES'NT NEED...... Honestly I would rather not do it if he is gonna insist on motor home headers and the like.... My assessment... Go ahead and buy all these parts...... Call me when things dont fit.... We will buy all the right parts and start over.....I have pointed him to all the threads you guys have led me to ... to enlighten him on why! I always do my homework before I jump in.... From what I see, and from experience you have to have the correct mounts for things to come together..... Thanx for all the help guys.... This forum is the best.... For Ford owners your not soo bad..... I have another body issue I will throw up on an elcamino if I dont get death threats....... ( I HAD JOINED THE TEAM CHEVELLE FORUM FOR SOME HELP ON THIS ONE AND TALK ABOUT A WASTE OF TIME ) A very non sociable group over there....

Just call it a "Ranchero" body issue, maybe no one will notice.

Dealing with someone that works on their own car and makes mods like he has can be a bear sometimes. You're dealing with sticker shock issues and ego's where they think they did it the best way possable.
What ever you do for the customer, it will reflect on you as soon as that car leaves your business. You need to make sure it is safe when it leaves, or the owner was made aware of the risks. I would even go as far as writing up an estimate showing your recommendations as to the correct parts and have him sign off on either approving or rejecting the work for your liability reasons.

FPA (Ford Powertrain Applications) makes the 'shorty' headers for the 66/67 Fairlane with a 460. They maybe a little pricy but I used FPA shortys on my 69 Cougar 460 and they fit great - even with PS/. The Crites were 'assemble yourself' tubes that had BAD reviews when I looked into using them.

Was your car a 390? were you able to use original mounts?

Mine was a 351W, I used Crites frame brackets and insulators (mounts) and the FPA headers. IIRC the insulators are the same as 69 T-bird 429.
