One of my beagles climbed a shelf to get two bottles of vitamin D tablets. Of course, she devoured both bottles.

That beagle spend four nights in doggie intensive care with constant IV treatments to keep her kidneys functioning.

I don't remember what the final cost was. I think my subconscience blocked it out. Needless to say it was in the thousands. Stupid beagle! But whatcha gonna do? If I let her die, I'd have to deal with Mrs. Klutch being upset about it for rest of our lives. "We should hav done something! We could have saved her!" And, I admit, I'd also feel bad about it.

And, FYI, don't be tempted by the "Pet Health Insurance" plans you see advertised at the vet office. I've done a lot of research on those plans and determined they are a complete ripoff. For every one person who actually had a bill paid, I found hundreds whose claims were denied. It's apparent these companies make money by collecting premiums, then denying claims. Sound familiar?

My female terrier mutt had spinal surgery last summer. They removed 7 discs. She's fine now. Total cost was approaching $7,000. That was a major hit, considering I'm retired and on a pension, but we love her.

That must have been a rough recovery.

Took my pup to get spayed and the anesthesia triggered 2 weeks of grand mal seizures, where she would become stiff as a board, foam from the mouth and convulse. Imagine trying to hold down a 160lb pup that is out of her mind. She stayed in a vets ICU for that time and afterwards the bill ran about 5k. Now she is on meds for epilepsy which are $200 a month. Would have been around $800 but Costco has them cheap.

Worth every penny everyday I wake up to her snoring on her couch.

That pitbull would have gotten a swift kick to the head if this happened on my property, and to my dog.

And by swift kick to the head I mean a .30-'06 to the dome. Did your dog survive ok?

I don't really think there is a right or wrong here. If someone wants to spend 7000 dollars on a dog that is their business. I also have a right to think there crazy. A new puppy can lay on the couch and snore also. I just don't have the ability to get that attached to an animal. I pay 300 a year to get the shots updated and a checkup on my 2 mini horses. Thats the top of the line for me. I do like the creamation thing though. Our vet charges 90 bucks. I take good care of my animals but when it's time to go, they go.
