From the tons of times I've looked for how to do this the correct way, this should be a *sticky* as well....

I had the same issue at first but if you have the photo hosted at Photobucket, edit the image width. Mine now is set at "300px" wide (mine at first was 667px wide) and resize if needed if you still think it's still too big. Make your judgement from there for how wide you'd like.

just a head's up, don't "crop" but choose "resize" and choose your pixel width. 660 or so is about the width of a forum post window so it will go to the right edge, black line on the right.

When you have the image open in Photobucket, are you choosing the "IMG" link (it should say "copied" when you click on it) and then click the "Mountain" button in your "Edit Signature" option in the Control Panel? As long as the image loads in Photobucket it should be cool.

I'm going to try a screenshot here of my "sig" edit window. See the "icon" right above the "3" of brettp3? That's what I mean.

ERGH, it just put your image in instead of what I was trying to do. if you need help, PM me. It should have put the code/URL in but it's showing the correct link to what your "sig" image will look like.

Glad to help out

Some additional information for those of you posting in this thread with issues:

What the edit signature screen should look like:

If it doesn't look like this under User CP -> Edit Signature, then I don't know what to tell you

For those of you who don't use Photobucket:
You can use imgur.com instead. It is a totally free image uploading site that does not require a login or anything. You just hit 'Upload Image', select the file on your computer that you want to upload when the dialog box comes up, and then hit 'Start Upload' on the little popup thing. It will then say "uploading image...." and take you to a screen that looks like this:

You copy the "Direct Link" url (circled in red with an arrow pointing to it) to get the image link. Then follow instructions with the yellow mountain button as detailed above The only catch with imgur is that the picture won't stay for forever - usually it will be around for a year or two and then will get deleted so you will have to re-upload it. That's why I use Photobucket when I post pictures in an install thread - so that they never get deleted so you all can always see them.

Hope that helps (more)!
