I've got red paint on my stang best described by the painter as an 88 'vette red with no blue in it. I'm trying to find a paint or auto body shop in the DC area that can do color matching and mix up some touch-up paint for me. Seems like no one I call has ever heard of computerized color matching or that it can only be used for house paint! All suggestions welcome including don't buy cars with non-standard paint without getting all the details. .

I know a guy who knows a place in Jersey that could help you, but would prob be a 4-5 hour 1 way investment...plus when you get computer paint matched...you buy a can....not a little touch up bottle. You 'could' try the old buy some 88 vette red touch (and a few others) and try them out under the fenders on some other inconspicious spot to find a match.

I've also been poking around the online touch-up paint vendors to see if they'd do one with no blue but you're suggestion makes good sense. Since I make the trip to Jersey (exit 9b) often to see my sister-in-law perhaps getting a can to have in reserve might not be a bad idea. Can you provide me a phone. If nobody else shows up in this area, it might be an option. Also thanks a lot

there's a place here in baltimore on 33rd street called "nyquist"
they have a scanner there that they can point at the car, and get an identical (or VERY close) match... i'd try them.
if you need help finding it, email me, and i'll get you there.

Mattos Auto paint in Beltsville MD used a scanner to match the Indian Fire red on my car earlier this summer. They ran three small test batches, two with paint codes that databases gave and the third from the scanner. It matched the best. Since I had to wait a fair bit of time and the batches were small, the guy gave them to me for free(!). All I had to buy was the reducer.

Ken,

Thanks for the info - that sounds like what I was looking for [not the free, the scanning to get the color right]
