Easy one for you folks. Looking at a brand new longblock 5.0 for use in the 65. I want to put the vintage vbelt front end on it. Will I need to change the timing gear set to use a vintage timing cover? Will I be able to use the 5.0 oil pump with a vintage pan? Anything else I need to change on the longblock to utilize the vintage accessories?

On the timing chain--yes, you will need a vintage-specific chain set as the 5.0L has a bit more clearance and thus allows for slightly thicker gears/chains. The 5.0L chain will likely rub on the back of the vintage timing cover. I'd suggest Cloyes true roller or equivalent (like Edelbrock) timing gear. Oil pumps are interchangeable from vintage to modern although you will need a vintage style pick-up.

You will also need vintage-specific bolts (available from AMK or others),a new 3-bolt 50oz balancer (like the one from Speedwaymotors.com), and a hardened gear on the dizzy if you use a vintage style distibutor.

Doesn't March make a V-belt setup for the late model 5.0L?

Thanks Daniel. That's a wealth of information for me.

Check Cloney's 5.0 conversion page if you haven't already.
