I was surfing the web looking for a pre-made H4 relay harness ($89...ouch) and stumbled across this:

That is Halogen bulbs Vs. IPF H4 housings, no relays, and that's a low beam Vs. low beam comparison on the same car. Having done a similar swap on my buddy's truck, I know the results are not photoshopped, but it still blows me away :/

...now if I had a car that needed headlights rather than a shell that needs an NPD catalog and a checkbook, I'd be in business.

Actually that wouldn't be a problem. I've been running E-code lights for a very long time, and as long as they are aimed correctly, they will not bother oncoming traffic, or those in front of you. The E-code reflector, & lens tend to focus the light where it is needed, and restricts it where it's not. Notice the flat cutoff of light, & the two angular slashes of light that are meant to pick up the road signs on the side of the road. This beam pattern is typical of all E-code light housings, whether they be "Cibie", "Bosch", "Hella","IPF", or even "Autopal". If you consider running this type of light, I would recommend running the relay harness as well. I;m confident in saying, "Once you use E-codes, You'll never switch back!" I've been using them since 1973.

What do you think cost would be if we already have relays setup. I haven't bought lightbulbs (The old style halogens), and those are $50 for a pair anyways.

As an example, Rocky Road wants $60 + SH for the housing kit and the Silverstar bulbs I was looking at retail for about $40 per pair...expensive, but the Silverstars in my buddies truck are 2+ years old and no trouble yet.

Actually it depends on which ones you want. You can buy "Autopal" for less than $30 pair. They are probably the "most bang for the buck" that I've seen. Although I don't currently own any, I will be buying a set soon. I normally run "Hella" E-codes, but have had "Bosch", & "Cibies" as well. Although the "Autopals" are probably not as good as the $100 - $200 housings, I believe they are far superior to any available sealed beams.I'll try to leave you a link.

But that wouldn't be everything I need ready to go though. Lets say I just have a headlight housing. What would I need (I'd say to reuse, but I have nothing, so) to buy for the car that is original, and then to add one, what would I need for this upgrade. For example a halogen bulb already has the housing (reflective part inside I guess) and the lens.. But I'm assuming you guys are just talking about bulbs, and nothing more?

Check out the "Autopal" link! Look for the 7", H-4 conversion. That is a plug and play set. However, IMHO I would run one of the many, readily available relay harnesses, which can also be bought as a plug-n-play unit. These run anywhere from $20 - $120, or you can make your own.
