I have 275/45/17s on my '69. All I needed was a 1" wheel adapter hub to clear the front control arms and space it enough in the back to clear the leaf spring. I am using '97 GT 17" rims.

My budget makes a shoe-string budget look like Warren Buffett's personal checking account.
We built a '67 Fastback the we installed an IRS from a '03 cobra. On that car, we had no problems with running the stock '03 cobra wheels and tires. The wheels are 17x9 and the tires were 275/45s. The backspacing on those wheels is 6.12" and Ford's late model 17x8, as found on later GT's, have a 5.72" backspacing.
ok but what about a stock 67 axle with 9.5/17's with a 5.75 bs, from my measurments i will rub slightly on the outer fender well, under a bump or hard turns, \
i just installing the rim and measuring 4.3 inches(which is what tire rack says the side wall measures)straight up i have about 1/2 an inch clearance, i can easily roll the fenders, however the inner fender has this bump thing that might also get in the way,
Over on www.mustangsteve.com, I am currently discussing and posting pictures of a mockup on the rear of my 67/68 with standard width rear axle. I am on Day Three of tire fitmant mockups and this is the latest attempt.
Here's what I am working with:
17x10.5 FR500 rim with 6.8" backspace, stock 9" with disk brakes, mid-eye leafs and 1" lowering block, and as many different tire sizes as I can get.
You can read my long postings and pictures with measurements.
Bottomline: cut the fender lip off. Period. Off. Gone. Bye-bye. THen a lot of choices become do-able.

Paul, do you have a side of the car with those wheels? I was considering those wheels. My wheel well lips were cut and rolled flat and smoothed, they did an amazing job on them. I was worried that they would rub about 4" up from the top center of the opening. There is also a spot on the front inside near the leaf spring that protrudes out that you have to look out for.
Here is a shot of mine before paint

I like the look, the only downside is the the cost of narrowing the wheels. The prices of the rims are very affordable, but then you tack on the 150-175 price per wheel to narrow them, your almost at the point where you should buy a set the width you need.
