Default t5 question

first time for this...my 65 vert has a 289 t-10 4 speed close ratio that i don't like! i have a completely rebuilt world class t5 that i want to try out...i just went on mustangs plus site and it seems to me that the plate would be the easyest way instead of the fulcrum fit ? if i get the plate and just change out the trans and use the same everything else will that work ? driveshaft and speedo gear the same ? thanks

Yep, that should work and let you keep pretty much everything else, but you might need an auto speedo cable and maybe a different gear. Driveshaft *shouldn't* need anything, and I don't know how a T10 speedo cable compares to a toploader cable (wrong side to fit a T5) though.

cool...if the speedo cable/gear is the biggest hickup that should be fairly easy, and this t5 would take atf or is there a better type fluid ? i'm sure this trans is fine for a stock 289 thats in it now but am i pushing it with a fresh 351W...thanks

Default t5 question

I swapped from a T10 to a T5 in my 66. I definitely needed a new (shorter) speedo cable--I used the one for an automatic--and I needed an automatic speedo gear. The T10/Toploader gear orientation is reverse cut compared to the T5 and C4. I was able to reuse my stock driveshaft with a new, shorter yoke which I got from Darkhorse (same as sold by rosehillperformance, Sacramento Mustang and others, I believe). You WILL need Dexron III equivalent ATF unless you have a non-world class (pre-1985) T5 which uses gear oil. The spacer is the easiest route to a T10 to T5 conversion.

if you have 280/300 gears outback with a t5 you want a white 17 tooth

wc t5

the year is on a tag. if that's not there, it's stamped onto the lid in a 2 digit #...assuming the lid was never swapped out.

all wc t5's had a 3.35 first gear ratio. The t5z's came with a 2.95 first gear ratio, however the z was never offered in a factory car..purely an aftermarket ford racing trans
