Default One piece oil pan gasket install (pics)

After this post: Pan Gasket Post I did buy the Felpro QOS13260T gasket. Those slick blue plastic pins it came with were a lifesaver! The pins to in the 4 corner bolts (the bigger bolts) that are nearest to the crank. They hold the gasket on there while you position the pan. Then, you can lock in the pan as well while you get your bolts in.

Luckily I had these, otherwise this would have been a nightmare. Weird thing is, when I took the stock pan off, it came right out. When I went to put this new chrome pan on, it wouldnt go on! I had to drop the centerlink in my steering in order to gain the clearance I needed. The pan wouldnt clear the crank weights or caps. Anyways, here's pics! You can see the blue pins sticking down.

If you ever have to change a pan gasket with the pan in the car, YOU NEED THESE PINS! Brilliant.

They are definitely a huge help. Be sure to keep those pins in case you need to drop the pan in the future

I got one of those for the '90 5.0 HO I just installed into the 66. I am looking forward to not having oil leaks...lol.

I just put one of those pan gaskets on my motor the other night. But I was lucky. I just spun the motor upside down on the stand

That was an engine cradle that the machine shop put on it when the previous owner picked it up from them. It was pretty flimsy and falling apart in that picture. Until a few days ago the motor was on a conventional engine stand. It's now sitting on the garage floor with the transmission bolted on in preparation to be dropped in the car in a day or two.

Maxum96, Off topic here too. I bought that lakewood scatter shield, like you have. Mine is supposed to be for a TKO 500. Can you post pics from both sides? PO only gave me 8 or 9 bolts, how many do I need? Thanks

I just dropped my engine in the car yesterday, but I have to pull it back out. I have some header issues and I have to swap out the piston on the hydraulic throwout bearing. I'll take some pics and post them when I get it out. Might be able to do that tomorrow.

I used that gasket as well. It says it doesn't need gasket sealer? Did you use some?

I used some on the ends in the corners and also on both sides of the gasket on the radiased parts of the front and rear of the pan. Look at the 3rd pic I posted above in my original post and you can see the silicone on the bottom of the timing chain cover. The silicone is dark grey.

I would not take the pan off and add sealer. You are correct the directions do say not to add sealer. I just installed the same gasket about 1 week ago and reread the directions after I saw the sealer on the above install. I have used these on two different engines with no sealer and have not had a leak.

There are a total of 19 bolts of various sizes that bolt the scattershield to the engine and bolt the plate between the engine and bellhousing to the scattershield. I'm using a hydraulic throwout bearing. Sorry for the delay on the pics. Been real busy on this end. Haven't even been able to work on the car.

I figure it's better to put a little on than to not use any and end up with a leak. I would be more comfortable if this was a fresh build with the motor out of the car. Since it's in the car and I'm not sure if I got all of the old silicone out of those areas in the corners, I figured it's cheap insurance.
