Kind of a jerk for deleting his pics, but I'm going with this setup as well.

Borgeson sells the entire kit for Mustangs. Steering Box, Saginaw power steering pump that bolts on the Ford and the correct hoses and the rag joint. Seems like I remember about $900.00 for the entire package.

Man, talk about getting one's panties in a bunch...

Most folk here probably know this, but the Borgeson unit doesn't work with stock manual transmissions because of the mechanical clutch linkage interfering with the hydraulic hoses on the Borgeson box. I sent Borgeson an email asking if the use of a cable or hydraulic clutch would work with their box, and they said it would.

I'm still a long way off from needing a decision, so I'll be interested in seeing if anyone is using the Borgy box successfully with a stick.

I have a bigger none Ford steering box with the hoses on the top like the Borgeson, in my '65. Just made some modifications on the Z bar for it to clear the steering box. Not that difficult and now the clutch pedal feels better/easier than stock. Using a Ford Racing "King Cobra" clutch. The car has power brakes and headers to, so it's a little crowded around the steering box.

Excellent! If you took any pictures, you should write a procedure including the manufacturer of the box. I'll likely end up with the Borg (resistance being futile and all), unless someone comes up with a better rack setup.

In my case, my car is a stock C4, so I have no linkage of any kind to modify. I'm probably going to go with the Mustangsteve cable clutch\pedal\quadrant deal, although I still like the idea of a hydraulic clutch.

Since there are no picture in this thread, I figured I would throw some up of my box that just came in today. (Thanks Shaun!)

I'll try to get some installation pictures if I can get out of work on Saturday.

Plans are to use a fox style PS pump and custom AN fitted hoses. Also will be attaching a shelby quick steer kit onto this steering set-up. On the car already are new tie rods, center link, and Pro-Motorsports bumpsteer kit which also quickens steering a bit more by moving the tie rod 1 inch forward on the steering arm.

You might check with one of the Ford Off Road 4X4 forums on a Saginaw conversion for your FE. They do a lot of that stuff. You can also increase the pump pressure on the Ford pump, but the Saginaw is a far superior pump.

I'm confused. I have a '69 Mach1 with power steering. There is good play in the steering and car feels like it floats.

I was going to send the box to get rebuilt but worry about turn around as I want to drive it soon.

What else would I need with the Borgeson steering box? Does this eliminate pieces on the car now? I also have Hooker Headers....will this thing even fit?

EDIT:

So this Borgeson gets rid of the power steering control valve? What about the power steering cylinder?

Man I did a lot of searching on 4X4's & other forums and couldn't find anything on the Saginaw on an FE. With all the forums & threads it's easy to miss though. I mainly saw a lot of stuff on SBF in Bronco's and things like that but not FE's. Has anyone seen a thread on it anywhere?

Please give us an update with a road test when you're done. I'd like to know how the road feel and assist is with your setup.

Imagine a manual set-up with hoses directly from the box to the pump. You can ditch the control valve, and the cylinder. I think I read somewhere that the floating feeling comes from the high pressure produced by the pump at higher rpm. I could be wrong though.

I will try to get the car on the road by the end of the summer so my earliest driving impression would be until then.

second post, i am very interested in this conversion for a 1966 convertible that we have, but i am hoping to get some solid feedback on how the unit drives. because i don't mind going R&P if needed, but this seems simpler, but i really want to get ride of the terrible valve and cylinder setup in our car. any feedback or links to other forums would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Default Saginaw PS pump for FE big blocks

The person who started this thread ignored my request for sharing any info on how he made Saginaw PS pump brackets to fit an FE big block for use with the Borgeson ps box. He also pulled all the pictures he had posted. I did a lot of searching to see if I could find a company who makes brackets to fit the FE. I finally found one company who makes them. Gearheads Cruiser Products & Services Click on the link and go to "Our Products and services". I haven't used them myself and just found them on the web. I can't say anything one way or another about their products, service or anything. They were very nice and were happy to answer any questions I had about their setup. It's a nice looking setup and looks like it will do the trick. They only sell a complete setup with the pump, pulley and brackets. The package goes for $395 including shipping anywhere in the US. They also have setups for 260-289's, 302's, 351W's, 351C's and 429-460's.

I was kind of hoping to see some install pics too. I've been looking at doing this set-up as well. Kind of realized that I would need to go with a hydraulic clutch so i could get the lines ran through the long tube headers.

Nice to see that Shaun is selling these units and for a nice price! It might have to wait until Christmas though.
