Default c4 to t-5 conversion

i am converting my 65 from a c4 to t5 but i tried to install the clutch petal and it overlaps the brake petal. do i have to get another bracket and brake petal? i am using a 65' clutch petal. also i am using a clutch cable conversion how would i use a return spring?

Are you trying to use the brake pedal from an automatic? The automatic brake pedals are wider than the ones from the clutch set-up. I believe the pedal support bracket should be the same. You will also need the clutch pedal stop and clutch return spring bracket.

ok that makes sense. i was reading that that thick spring that hooks to the clutch pedal was just a "helper spring" not a pedal return spring is this true?

I actually don't have mine mounted yet, (I'm doing the conversion too) but I've always seen it called a return spring.

You MIGHT not need that spring if you have a diaphragm clutch. You can use the auto brake pedal if you cut it down and put on a rubber pad for a manual trans brake pedal.

what would keep the petal tight to the cable without the petal bouncing around over bumps and stuff?

a good description of petals http://www.mustangsteve.com/fyi_brak...akepedals.html

You don't need a return spring with a cable clutch if the setup is designed and adjusted properly. You would only need a return spring if the end of the cable on the clutch pedal is not captured.

+1 No return spring needed. With a properly adjusted diaphram style clutch set up there is a slight preload on the clutch fingers. There should be no free play in the pedal at rest. This is according to the Mustang steve cable kit instructions. It says to take out the return spring. I am also still in the process of the T-5 conversion. Just life is getting in the way (Newborn future stang lover) that is.

i was thinking that too can't i just cut half of the pedal pad off so that it would clear the clutch pedal?

Yeah I'd buy a rubber pad for a manual trans car and trim the metal so it fits.
