I'm installing a late model roller 5.0 into my '65 Mustang. How do I plug up the dip stick hole on the block? What do I use? Is there a dipstick plug I can buy somewhere?
Yes you can get a tap in plug at an auto supply, or use a tap and thread it for a threaded plug, or take a stub of wooden dowel and tap that in w or w/o silicone. Or just fill the hole with silicone.

ahh Silicone, why didn't I think of that? I'm thinking I need some sort of overly complicated solution and didn't stop to think that it could be that easy. Thanks for the suggestions.
Do it the right way, go get a brass plug and tap it in.

Low budget, low tech, wooden dowel is actually a v good method to use. Impervous to the oil & no metal shavings to deal with.
That or a plug, like a mini freeze plug(oil gallery plug) is slick.

You bring up a good point about metal shavings. Perhaps running a 1/8 NPT through that hole may not be a good idea. It's not a bare block. The engine is fully assembled. If I run a tap through that hole I'll possibly get metal shavings in the engine. I'll make a visit to the local napa or autozone and see if I can find a tiny freeze plug, otherwise I'll look for a wooden dowel or plug it with silicone.
I also used a wooden dowel. It swelled up and has not leaked. Simple. I didn't want to deal with shavings or anything. You can't see it. It blends in. It is cheap and it doesn't leak.
