I love the stock form (badges, emblems, and all) in a classic early coupe. I don't see the need for stripes on a coupe. It will also help future resale to keep it stock. As for color, pick what you want. I really like clean coupes in black! A subtle rocker panel stripe in red looks cool in place of rocker panel moldings, or go without the moldings.

I vote for Ivy Green with Wimbledon White Shelby stripes, R-model front valance, rear bumper painted body color, Shelby hood and side scoops. Very few Shelbys were Ivy Green ( '66-only color on Shelbys ), so you don't see many "real" ones, and very few people choose the color when doing a tribute / clone car. I might be just a LITTLE biased though...
My car was originally Ivy Green - and that's about the only thing that remained original during the build.
Take your time on the color choice - it is a huge decision, but when you find the right color, you'll know it immediately. Good luck with your build!!

I've never been a big fan of the two tone paint jobs on these cars due to their body lines. I think solid colors look better. And in my opinion, the shelby stripes look a little out of place on coupes. However.....this two tone silver/gray fastback is a friend of mine's and I think it looks pretty awesome with the flames breaking up the two tone.
I do love that vintage burgandy color! That color would look good especially as a GT clone.

If you care about re-sale value, Ditch the stripes... A GT clone would be OK..
You have no idea about how many really nice original Mustang Hardtops get unsold because someone did a Shelby stripe job on it... People just literally walk-away. No lie.
If the car is a Resto-Mod, then no harm done then.....but if the car is mostly original, Leave the top stripes off
I've walked away from about 4 really nice hartop cars myself because someone "added" the Shelbys stripes... People walk away because they just don't want to deal with them, unless they have an entire re-paint in mind...and who wants to pay for that nowadays if they don't have to.
PS: Now if the car is a Fastback, That is an entirely different story! lol.

I did my coupe with '67 style Shelby hood, valence and bright white stripes. Wasn't going to do the stripes at first, but my painter talked me into them and now I really like the look.

mine is ford sapphire blue mettalic with silver frost stripes. My body shop guy mixed a little blue pearl in the silver so the whole car changes color in different light from a bright blue to purple
Here's my car last year getting it's 4 speed. It's present appearance with faded paint and missing vinyl roof is going to stay like that for a while. I'm focusing on making it a fun car to drive with some suspension and engine work....as time and money allows. I have most of the parts though.
I would skip the GT350 clone idea. There are way too many out there (for a reason, they are cool cars) and it just doesn't look right on a coupe. Any time you put Shelby stripes on a coupe, people automatically think "Shelby." A Bullitt tribute wouldn't be as obvious as a Shelby tribute. I don't think most people are going to think of it as a Bullitt tribute right away.
TT400, your car is beautiful! What is the paint color and can you give me the details of the paint job? My '65 coupe is originally Ivy Green and I want to repaint it someday and the paint job on your car is the look I've been after.
There is a gold fastback with white stripes on Mustang Steve's website (mustangsteve.com) I personally think it is one of the best looking cars I have ever seen. That gold color with dark center Torq Ds looks awesome.
That's the color I actually had, but I've decided to go a dark burgundy route with some metallic in it. Black interior goes with anything, but so does a Parchment color!
If the car isn't a factory GT or K-code then your choice to go with Stripes / No Stripes isn't going to affect the value. What's more important is the quality of the work. As long as you don't go crazy on the color choice ( Lime Green or Flourescent Tangerine or whatever ) and the paint and bodywork are well-done you'll be ok. That being said, if you do go with stripes, then you probably should give some consideration to making the car look the part of a Shelby. Steel-styled wheels, a stock stance, single exhaust...those things won't cut it. Make the car look like it could survive a few hot laps at the track.
They made way over a million coupes in '64-'66 and the vast majority of them were non-GT and non-hipo ( K code ) cars. Build it the way you want it and enjoy it. If you're looking to flip it and make some money on it, find another hobby unless you have tons of free time and free parts at your disposal.
mustanggarage - gorgeous car buddy!! YOURWAY

I get a lot of positve comments on the color of the car. Its something you dont see very often. I will get you the paint code. It is a stock color but I dont remember the year of car it came from.
Wow , there are some great looking coupes on this tread ! here is mine , did the GT badge and rocker stripes , If I'm correct there is no such thing as a 64.5 GT but I didn't care , I like the look.....
Good Luck with your project
