Default I need to see some '65/'66 coupe pictures please

I'm not sure if this is the correct section, if not I am sorry and please move it.

Alrighty guys. I'm going to take the plunge and do the body and paint on my car this spring. I am going to do it all my self and cut out the rust and fix the cowl. I'm super nervous about the project because I've never done body work before. While I am certain that I can get through the repairs and prep I am super stumped on what color to paint my car. I've attached a picture of my car below.

Should I keep the stripes?
Maybe go with a GT theme?
A Shelby tribute? I don't know.

I am keeping the interior black! Any help is greatly appreciated.

Please help by posting all the great pictures I know you guys have.

Thanks much guys.

Stripes are always classic...but have you though of going an non-traditional stripe route? Asymetrical stripes/or different line thickness? Also is blue your favorite color? First and foremost....its got to fit you!

Black interior goes with almost everything...I have been going back and forth on what to do for my car....So far, its going to be a dark purple with a black lace racing stripe.

There are plenty of Shelby clones and tributes out there. What do you want to do? There's an idea in your head somewhere. This forum can provide great suggestions, but no one knows what you really want, so don't ask us what you are thinking.

I'm lucky and my '65 coupe happens to originally be ivy green. Someday when I restore it I will repaint it the original color and keep a mostly stock exterior and interior, but upgrade the I6 to a V8 and the C4 to a Toploader. I want to keep the vintage look and feel but upgrade the performance and add some subtle changes here and there. Right now I am thinking about an offset stripe on the driverside (satin black?) and a hood mounted tach.

Do what looks good to you. It's your car and should make you feel good when you look at it and drive it. But I do like blue.

OK guys, there are a few ideas that I've had.

My car is originally a plan jane base 289, 3sp, gold with black interior. The color it is now is how I got it, but there is rust that needs to be addressed.

I'm not a fan of the blue. Its very nice, but not the top of my list.

Here are a few ideas I've been thinking of:

Clone/Tribute:
-Black with flat black stripes
-Black with Gold stripes (Hertz colors)
-'66 Silver with Black stripes
-White with blue stripes
-Bullit Green (can't remember what its called) with white stripes

GT Clone:
-66 Silver Frost
-66 Vintage Burgundy
-Bullit Green
-Black
-Flat Black

I've spent days looking on line at different pictures trying to come up with something that I just have to have. Its such a problem because now I want 4 or 5 mustangs so I can have one of each. I'm just stuck. What has become a problem for me is that most of the pictures I see are of fastbacks. I can't always picture a paint scheme on my coupe. I guess I can't visualize it well. Thus I am asking for pictures.

I like the traditional colors. I think that is probably where I want to be but the flat black and this wicked green look awesome don't you think?

I'm so torn!

It's hard to see in this pic. GT stripes done in Boss reflective.

Default 66 Mustang

You have got some tough decisions.
Here is mine. It is a Harley Davidson Color called Diamond Ice, with black interior
Good luck with your car. Make it your own, everyone has different ideas and thoughts, but yours is the one that counts.

Ok.. I've been doing some thinking.

What are thoughts on the following:

1. Two tone with a top color that is different than the side color with the two colors meeting at the fender line

2. A '66 BULLIT themed coupe

3. GT350 Clone

I kind of feel like the two tone would be more like a high priced build and honestly my car is not a high caliber car.

The Bullit could be a interesting set up. Dark green (forgot the name), no badges, GT rear valance, take all the chrome window trim and make it black (or keep it chrome?). Maybe black out the rear light panel. I've got some nice rims that meet the bullit theme.

The GT350 would be minimal. No hood scoop, no side scoops. Just a good clean paint job. If I went this way I feel that it would be harder to be done (these cars are never done) and I would need some extra power under the hood to back up the stripes.

I'm keeping my interior all black. I have a few mechanical improvements that are planned for the winter (new gears, brakes, and steering) so the car should be a nice runner. Nicer than now and its a load of fun now.

So thoughts? I kind of like the Bullit idea right now. Anyone have a picture of a bullit coupe?

I vote for the 2 tone. My 2¢ regarding Bullit and GT 350 tributes has always been 1. Your car would need to new the right year and 2. Need the right body style. That's just my 2¢, it's always been a pet peeve of mine...maybe it's just me.

I may be biased but I like my car. No stripes, no front bumper guards, no horsey and corral, simple wheels.

Here's late model Bullitt Green (Dark Highland Green) with the side scoops and bumper brackets deleted for a cleaner look, plus 15" Magnum 500 wheels on a '66.

Perfect! What mirror are you using? I always thought the "correct"one looks out of place. Yours looks natural.

Thanks. It's a 67-68 mirror. I don't care for the 65 round ones. Mine's the non-remote mirror.
