Default pedal questions

ok i have read enough to confuse the crap out of myself. im swapping my c4 tranny with a t5 in my 1965 coupe. and am also adding power brakes (keeping all 4 drums for now). from what i have read is that the brake pedals are the same for both power and manual brakes. but now i also need a clutch pedal.

1. can i just buy a clutch pedal and bolt it on? from looking at my brake pedal now, i dont believe its that easy.

2. is the brake pedal on a clutch/brake assembly the same as an automatics brake pedal?

almost everything i can find talks about adding power brakes to an automatic because of the clutch linkage, but since im using a clutch cable i have no clue where to start. and most of the power brake kits are for automatics

When we did my friends 69 he just bought a pedal and bolted it on. We had to cut the brake pedal as it is wider.

He went hydraulic and I went linkage. I think cable is the way to go!

I'm doing this same swap on my 65 fastback minus the power brakes. I was able get a clutch and brake pedal for mine, and I'm doing the cable setup also. Putting the trans in this weekend so I can get a driveshaft measurement, then will do the pedals and cable setup.

i wish i was putting mine in this weekend. i had a small fire on top my motor so i have some work to do to the engine bay before i get everything back in.

and i think its the power brakes that is messing with my head. i thought i almost had everything figured out with just manual brakes, but now im throwing in another factor that most information about power brakes are geared towards automatics. so i dont know

I have never converted to power brakes but i dont see how anything could be in the way.... The booster sits in off the firewall and the new link just bolts into the existing pedal arm. The only thing that would prevent you is any obstruction in the engine bay right? The cable setup is quite high and should give you more clearance for the booster.

I will take some pics and post some as I do my conversion. Mine is odd because I'm using a 94 cobra T5 instead of the fox body

from what i read on i believe mustangsteves site, is that if you use the factory Z-bar for the clutch then you need a special booster that is notched, and i dont believe he sells that.

so does that mean i that i should be able to just buy a clutch pedal online and it will bolt up to something under the dash?

If you go with a cable system you wont have a zbar.
check out this picture:http://slantnosefox.com/picturehosti...ch%20cable.jpg
This bracket above the brake master is your clutch cable.

The clutch pedal should just bolt up to the existing pedal assembly. The cable kit should extend your pedal arm on top to make the lever for the cable.
Modern Drivelines Clutch Cable Conversion Kit Photo 12

This shows them installing a cable kit with a master. Looks like it fits with no issues.

If you use the Modern Driveline cable kit, you won't have any issues with booster clearance. The Modern Driveline cable comes through the firewall above the booster right below the 90 degree angle in the sheet metal that the cowl attaches to and it's well clear of the booster.

You should be able to add a clutch pedal to your existing pedal bracket. The shaft that the brake pedal on is hollow, and the clutch pedal has a long round shaft on it that slides right through the hollow brake pedal shaft.

Here's a shot of the Modern Driveline cable & a booster:

Here's my pedal assembly with the Modern Driveline cable bracket. I have also added a clutch interlock safety switch so the clutch has to be pressed in order to start the engine. This is the same switch used in the '80s & early '90s Mustangs. I'm using a 1986 wiring harness, so it plugs right in.

ok thanks everyone for the responses. i think im close to figuring this out.

i can use my factory automatic brake pedal. then buy a clutch pedal from cjs or mustang unlimited or some similar place. bolt the clutch to my factory brake pedal. use the modern driveline clutch cable. then buy the mustangsteve power booster setup which modifies the brake pedal.

does this sound correct? if so thank yall greatly. if not then i guess im still confused. seems simple now thou

If you havnt bought the booster and remaining parts, MustangSteve does sell the complete assy, all that you will need. I sold locally my stock pedals, zbar setup, and manual brake equip for good $$$ too.
