Default well, suprised by what i found today!

started the tear down on the fastback today. swapping in a small cam adding a msd distributor ect..

while i was at it i was really thinking about adding a set of e brock heads to this lil 289 we have. just removed a valve cover and the car is equiped with screw in studs, roller rockers and guid plates.

i wasnt expecting that and now im curious as i have always thought these where just 289 c code heads. i am now wondering if it would be worth my time to swap over to the edelbrock e street heads that i have..

guess i need to learn where to find the code on the head is. the only stuff i can see right now are 289 and 6k19 cast into the top

Sounds like you might have a decent set of heads there to work with since someone done all that to them. Do they have cups cast into the heads for the valve springs to set in? If so then i'd say there Hi-Po heads. Let us know.

looks like a casting number of c6ae?
sound right? i thought that it might be c9ae though.
but i am looking at it upside down abd backwards and such with a mirror.

looks like screw in studs with hardened guid plates and pushrods.
it also runs a ford 302 roller rocker on a 1.6 ratio.

im thinking about tossing on the ebrock heads. down side to this whole deal is that the ebrock heads are using a 59-60 cc chamber while these have the small chanbers.

any thoughts on heads?

I'd pull an exhaust manifold and see if your heads are ported- if so there may be little gain switching heads. If not I'd port the heads that are on the motor and sell or store the edlebrocks. Like you say the downside is the lower compression vs. slightly better flow and slight weight advantage of the edlebrocks. I guess you could switch and sell your re-worked iron heads. John

Just a note on the E-Street heads that some people miss.

The stock valve train used in these heads is setup for a flat tappet cam. This may or may not be an issue for you.

Also, the stock valve train is not particularly great. Even though they have decent specs they are a bit deceiving. If you already own the heads and don't mind spending a few hundred extra bucks to upgrade the valve train then it might be worth it. Otherwise, I'd be inclined to stick with what you have already.

Here's a thread about those heads from Corral. Some good info to be mined if you can get past the bickering.

either way its a very mild cam i am going with.
should wake the little motor up yet not be keeping it from operating every day if that is what one wants.

215/223 at 50
269/277 total
475/496 lifts
lsa is a 112 and it should pull out towards the 5400-5500 redline

this is already a 9 to 1 motor. so i am going to stick with the 289 head. some one put some money into these. its setup with aftermarket springs, retainers locks and such. even has teflon seals added to the head/guides.

i am just going to do the cam swap and then add a paxton to her and be done. except for the aod/4r70w swap i am planning on doing.
