Default Fox vs SN95 T-5 transmission mount questions

I have a couple of questions about transmission mounts.

Will a transmission mount for a Fox T-5 bolt to a 94 T-5 transmission? Are they the same height? Are the bolts further apart (about 1/2") on the Fox?

I ask because I am trying to mount a 94 T-5 into my 69 Mustang, but the crossmember I have was designed for a Fox T-5. The bolt pattern on my 94 mount is about 1/2" more narrow than the bolt holes on the crossmember. I could modify the crossmember, but would prefer to just spend ~$10 on a new Fox mount, if that will correct the problem.

Thanks,
Chuck

The tail housings are the same. My son just bolted a T-5 into his car ('95) and we used the isolator mount I accidentally bought for my '66 conversion.
I know on the '66 you have to use a special crossmember and the '66 isolator mount.
I bought the Fox mount for mine.
Are you using a conversion crossmember?

Yes. I am using this one from NE Performance Mustang.

Since I have a 94 T-5 (which is longer than a Fox T-5 by 5/8") and adjustable engine mounts, I had a local machine shop modify the crossmember (see attached). Because of personal stupidity, I didn't verify the bolt holes actually matched the transmission mount bolts. Now, I need to widen the holes another 1/4" on the inside (making those holes 3/4" wide). I will need to also make a bracket for underneath the crossmember so my nuts don't fall through (hate it when that happens...).

So, if the Fox mount will work, I can spend ~$10 to correct my stupidity. Otherwise, I will need to take it back to the machine shop (in shame), ask them to modify it again and make the nut bracket (which will cost more than ~$10).

Thanks,
Chuck

So, the transmission mount from a 66 bolted to the 95 transmission? I was just looking at the 69 mount (online -- my original mount and I parted ways about 4 years ago), and it looks shorter than the SN95 mount. But, the picture I could find is at a bad angle, so it is difficult to tell.

In town, both the Fox and the 69 mounts are special order, so I need to know which one I should get prior to spending the money.

Thanks,
Chuck

I just sent an email to NEPM. They don't have a phone number or I would have called. I will post what they say.

I put a 97 T5 in my 66 coupe and my 65 Falcon. In both cases I used the tailhousing from a pre-94 trans and the stock C4 mount. Not sure how different the housings are but visually, the tilt of the mount on the casting seemed different. When I started the swap in the stang, I had an old Windsor-Fox crossmember. It bolted up fine. I did however end up making my own mount later when I swapped in home-made adj. motor mounts and ran a 3" into 2.5" X-pipe. Needed extra exhaust clearance....

Whose crossmember did you use?

Corral.net just verified the bolt pattern is the same for both the Fox and the SN95. One guy said the Fox is about 1/2" shorter, so I would need shims. But since the two bolts are the same distance apart, it doesn't matter.

When I hear back from NEPM, I will post what they say.

Thanks!
Chuck

I just heard back from NEPM. They say I need to use the 1969 mount with their crossmember. Cool.

Yea, sorry about getting back so late. I used the Modern Driveline Crossmember that NPD sells. Modern Driveline specifically states the '66 isolator must be used to attach the T-5 to the cross member.
As far as the '94-'95 T-5 being longer, that length is the input shaft of the transmission and the bell housing. From the face of the trans where the bell housing bolts to it to the tip of the tail shaft it is the same as a Fox T-5.
You DO have the '94-'95 specific bell housing, don't you??

You really think I need it?

Just kidding! I have 94/95 specific everything. I have the entire drive train (engine and transmission -- even planning to run most of the accessories) from my 94 donor. It's all in the car now, except the tail of the transmission is supported by a jack stand. I used the Ron Morris adjustable engine mounts and they are GREAT!

NAPA will have my new trans mount tomorrow morning. Hopefully before I go to bed tomorrow night, the transmission will finally be 100% in.

;-)

It's just that every time I mention I have a 94 transmission, I hear how I need the bell to go with it.

Thanks,
Chuck
