Confused custom trunk lock question

I have added a typical duck tail shelby style trunk lid to my 65 fastback. The lid did not come prepped for a lock. I was told by the vender that I should use a 67-68 lock setup. OK, no problem except...when I put the gas cap on there is very little room between the top of the cap and the bottom edge of the trunk lid. Has anyone run into this little fitment problem?
thanks

Gee, it sounds like the vendor didn't think this through. Have you thought about not having a lock on the outside? I put a remote trunk release on my '67 and since then have never used the key. Scott Drake sells an electric release the looks like the original cable version.

I'm in a similar situation, but I just want to shave mine.

Not sure how well it would work, but what about locking hood pins? Like the aero catch thingy.

Forget the keys. I bolted in an power electric lock from a 67 galaxie and control it by remote a key fob transmitter/receiver bought off ebay. Only wiring is to the existing constant power found in the trunk. No need to run wiring to passenger area. Never use the key anymore.
