I am interested how this turns out. Doesn't the 67/8 have a wider track width? Do you intend to use flared fenders?

Quote from Tarafied

"The reason the 67/68 could fit a big block is the design of the shock towers move the track width 1" wider on each side. That's why I need to use the 68 suspension as well. This is not a mismatch or hack job. The Boss 429 had special shock towers, there are kits to notch the shock towers, there are even kits to put Mustang II suspension on these cars. It will look factory and be just as good as any other 68. I can compensate for the track width with the BS/offset of the wheels."

I enjoyed working on your car, can't wait to get back over and do some more damage!
And you gave me the parts to fix the T5 also so it's good!

"Doesn't the 67/8 have a wider track width? Do you intend to use flared fenders?"

and no I don't want to flare the fenders. I'm thinking of using some late model Mustang wheels in the front. They are offset more, in fact to use them on a stock Mustang you need spacers so it should work out perfect.

You will have a bit more elbow room with the new shock towers, good job!

Yes, it will be weird. I have a 429 in my 67 and with the shock towers it's tight. Right now I have a 94 HO 5.0 and a T5 to put in this car.
I haven't done any more on the car (working on the honey-do list), but I did go to the pick-a-part on my way to do some of my honey-do's and found a half-decent left front fender.
Got it for $47, it is not without some rust and dings but it will work. Also collecting other parts. I traded the original 65 steering gearbox, column, steering wheel, upper shock brackets, strut rods & frame mounts to my friend who is rebuilding a 65 FB for a 68 gearbox and a late 67 column. He threw in some aprons for a 65 also.
(you can see the column is laying in the trunk). I test fit the gearbox and 68 drag link on the frame. Looks like it will work.

i'v done 3. heres 2 fotos of a 66 with 68 towers. my current 65(3rd foto) has 69 wrap around towers. i am using a 68-70 steering box on my 65. you will need the all the suspension and steering linkage for the 67-70. the track is 1" wider. i have only changed out the towers not the entire frame section. the 65-70 frame rails are the same and mount the same distance apart. i saw a 65-66 with a 70 front frame section. i dont know if the aprons or core support need to be change. p.s. use headers for a 67-70 mustang. i'm a greek i mean a geek !

Hey, thanks. In the first photo (which inspired me by the way) are those the 14x5 styled steel wheels with the newer suspension? It looks pretty good. I was worried about finding wheels.
I am going to swap the radiator core support, this one has some rust and is dented. I have a repop core support and the aprons.

thanks, any other advice or recommendations? I have all the 68 suspension (except spindles). I am going to use the 65 aprons and radiator core support. I have a 68 steering gearbox and a late 67 column.
I'm looking for Granada spindles, I have a lead on some. I think that should about cover it. Looks like those wheels fit in the wheel wells okay with the wider track.

Yeah I don't think this plan will work. Any more backspace than is usually used on an 8 inch wide wheel will hit the A-arms. If they didn't, people would be running 9 inch wide up front.

The 6 inch wide wheels may work.

I've been told that but I bolted some 05 Mustang V6 wheels on the 68 before cutting it up. They fit without hitting the UCA or ball joints.
