im also trying to keep my new rim choice top secret for now as i plan to be the first to do this on a Muscle Car build. I think the 19/18 do look just right, but even 19 all around might look cool to if i fine tune the stance a little bit

im interested to see the 20/19 setup -it could look right with the right rim, though I will admit i havent seen a 19 inch rim up front on a early car that looks right. it all comes down to spoke design. some 18 inch rims look like 16's because of the design.

@55Speed - Do your thing! Personally I think the staggered setup from DrStang looks great. For my '66 I probably wouldn't go bigger than 17" or 18" but that's as much a part of me being lazy and not wanting to tub the rear or heavily modify the front end.
I have seen this as well, and you are correct, there are vintage cars with those size wheels that look good with them.

HOWEVER, when you see those size wheels they are usually on full size cars from that era.
There was a Hot Rodding mag I've got from about a year ago where they had an old full size car that had the 20" wheels on the rear, but it was a 69 Charger, and it looked good.

I think the later Mustangs like the 71-73 might be able to pull it off, but it would all depend on how it was done.

Yeah, but Mustangs are not Porsches or Ferraris. Large rims\small profile tires look natural and good on organically shaped and rounded cars where the coachwork is built low to the ground by design, but look terrible on boxy, upright, angular designs.

That's why outsized dubs look anywhere from hideous to humorous on 90s Impalas and Crown Vics and even current Escalades. It reminds me of an 80 year old woman wearing 6 inch heels.

If you want your car to have that Conestoga Wagon-Train look to it, go for it. OTOH, Mustangs are horses.....

When I bought my 69 convertible last year the previous owner had installed 20's. They fit fine on the rear but rubbed constantly in the front, made the car undriveable.

I bought a new set of 17's and have since sold the 20's shown in the pictures below.

There is a picture of a black 65/66 fastback on what I believe is a 19/20 (or bigger) combo on air, looks tits. And who said the ford love on PT is weak, I'm there everyday and there is lots of blue oval builds going on.

Here:

I'd like to see a photo of front wheel wells/suspension, Z06killer.

Red390GT: I'd have to venture a guess that you went the right way there
Convertible's are hard to do right and extreme wheels didn't do it justice. You have updates?

Yuck!

That car is going to end up in the same proverbial graveyard as 1990s era turquoise pearl Chevelle convertibles with tweed interiors, a 9ft blower and Boyd Codington wheels. Just give it 10-20 years and whoever has it will be embarrassed to take it out of the garage. I can pretty much promise that every car that someone says is "sick" or "tits" is going to be a joke eventually (if not already).

In 20 years the black mustang above is probably going to be mild looking compared to whats coming. Not that's it's totally across the board like this but I think it boils down to mostly more of the younger generation likes the big 'ole rims and thin walled tires and more of the older generation don't. I must be getting friggin old--- cause i think it just screws up what could be a fine looking mustang. My grand-boys love it though---.

stick to teenage rims. 18's are the biggest i'd go on a 65/66. 19's are the biggest i'd go on the back of a 67-70.
