datsun 510 and z car i believe use same slave 68-73.. in 75 or 74 they went to a "self adjusting" slave- i used to work at a datsun specialty place and we used the early slave on all cars-- we always replaced the later 280 ones with an earlier one so we could manually set freeplay on clutch.

the 72 slave with threaded rod for a brand new one is like $25 .. i have used a later slave as well one - im pretty sure theyre all 3/4" and use early rod

the earlier slave has a eyehole for a return spring- the latter one doesnt

the pics i have on cardomain of my trans are the early slave

Mike,

Thanks for the info.

How do you like that TCP rack?

What's it like at highway speed and above?

I have used a hydraulic clutch in my 65 for about 15 years now. it was a JMC version, one of the first ones out. I am also using a king cobra clutch and my little wife 5'8 110 lbs can operate it just fine. the stock clutch was way to heavy for her before the swap. btw I also have the tcp power rack and I think it was the best mod I ever did.,

i'm still wanting to go hydraulic but if i cant find someone to make a slave mount bracket for the 94-95 (sn95) bellhousing then i will have to go cable.

i've emailed modern driveline about the bracket and this is what i got back:

We have not looked that the 94-95 bellhousing on one of our kits. It might work as our kit does use a L-bracket designed.
This is my current setup on my car. I had the older weld on style mustangsteve setup on my t5 using a king cobra clutch setup/ Took nearly 2 feet to engage clutch and the firewall was flexing bad. I went with the cnc hydraulic setup and there wasn't any comparison. The hydraulic setup was by far an easier pedal. I ended up fabbing up another bracket and used everything on the t56 that is currently in the car. I think I still have the cnc cylinder t5 bracket at the shop if your interested in it. If so shoot my a pm and we'll come up with something. Good Luck

I am still looking for a good option to add a hydraulic slave set up to my Toploader. I do not want to use the internal TO-bearing. You would have to use a 'pull' style slave if it was to be mounted on the trans side of the bell housing.

I want to install shorty headers, or Hi-Po manifolds and keep my toploader. Right now the best option is to just make a custom Z-bar. As far as I can tell, the '67 Hi-Po Z-bars are extinct.

Bruce from Modern Driveline called me the other day and left a message (still havent had the time to call him back). He basically said it was underway but as with all their stuff they had to make sure it worked before finalizing the product for sale. SO good news for those who decide to go with the 94+ setup now.

I made a pretty complicated mount for my toploader that bolted to the blocking plate, anchored on the old bellcrank pivot and I sent one anchor to either the motor mount or the oil pan. Can't remember. It was my typical overkill.

Make sure you get someone to push the clutch while you are under there. There is a lot of force and I had to keep adding supports to get it to work. I might have a photo somewhere if you want... BTW, I run shorties - great choice for maintainability of the vehicle, ground clearance at the penalty of a HP or two. Its peanuts in the big picture.

why don't you want to use the hydraulic throwout bearing? I did that back when I still had a toploader. it worked very well once I got the right bearing. it was a dirt easy install too. then later when I upgraded to the 5 speed I just bought the slave cylinder and bracket.

do you not want to do it because you have to pull the transmission? if so I can understand that but it really is an easy install.
