Did this on my 97 5.0 in the Mounty. I had to pull the timing chain cover and then use vice grips on the shank of the bolts. They were corroded into the block because of leaking coolant so in all actuality I needed to put a new gasket on the TC anyway. I was not able to locate new bolts so I carefully removed ones from the local pick-n-pull and cleaned them up on the wire wheel. Mountys/Explorers use some unique TC and water pump bolts because they mount other things to them. Don't know if that's the case for your app.
