My buddy just totaled his pristine 88 foxbody gt 5 speed with 57,000 original miles on it. It's bone stock except for flowmasters. I got the complete car for $700. Completely unmolested. I sold parts of the interior and got all my money back quick. With still lots to sell.
Now the plan is to put the 5.0 and t5 into the 66 and I've got the whole donor car. How sweet is that? I'm sure I'll have some questions along the way so thanks in advance.
I saw your seats. Those have the headrest removed? If so, how hard was it? I just staged mine and it looks as though the headrest would rub on the headliner. Without the headrest seems to fit much better.
Just remember that in 88 unless it is a California car they have a speed density system vs the mass air. Makes power upgrades more difficult until you upgrade to mass air IIRC?
Great deal for a peppy donor drivetrain!
Enjoy.
Thanks awesom-0. I really plan to leave the engine as stock as possible. I know how the build monster can take over, not this one...yet. Plus, this one is for my wife. Its her dream car. The 5.0 should be double the power of the 6 that's in it now.
I did alot of research when I pulled all the harnesses to make sure I had what I need to run the speed density. And I'm running a small additional harness to accommodate the maf in the future if I do want to. I don't plan to do the conversion, but when the harness is on a table it really easy to just go ahead and add it now.
I find it hilarious that when you Google 'speed density' , maf conversion comes up first.
Nice score. Pretty much the majority of all 5.0 Fox Mustangs in these parts have been beat to a snot. For such a popular car around here during that era, most must have been crushed. There are none in the salvage yards around here. It has been easier to find top loaders than T5's.
While I had it on craigslist I had a guy call and ask if he could come by just to take some pictures. At that point it was all together. He had a 5.0 that was being installed in an early bronco and needed to know where sensors and some connections go. He was very thankful as finding a foxbody uncut is rare I think anywhere. I understand the value of actually seeing it first hand, so it made me very happy to help.
Indeed! I had a '90 LX 5.0 Vert 7-Up edition that I kept bone stock for all of its 180,000+ daily-driven miles. I entered into SoCal's largest all-Mustang car show and it took first place in the "stock Fox-body" class. There were only 3 other cars in my class...
To the OP - Sorry for your buddy's loss, but good score!
All being told, I have receipts showing that a previous owner spent $8000 in parts and almost the same on labor to put em in. That was in 2011. And all the parts were restoration parts. Weird huh?
Now I have stripped this Fox naked myself. And the whole time I didn't know about the restoration parts being added in 2011. As I tore it apart I couldn't believe how 'stock' it was. So somebody spent good money to put it back to stock? I find it strange so I checked the vin and it's not special or anything. Oh well.
As I dug into the paperwork I found that the guy who spent all the money on parts and labor had it appraised shortly after. To the tune of $8900! Ouch. Man do I love having quality paperwork for cars. It's entertaining.
Oh, and if anyone wonders, yes.....I did the right thing. I called him to tell him it was totaled and stripped. He he. I thought he should know. He wanted to buy it back as soon as I said I had it. THEN, I said it was totalled. Dang, I'll probably pay for that.
Thanks Stan, after asking I couldn't wait and looked it up. You're right, it's pretty easy to do. Yours look really nice!
