If you haven't already selected your painter, I have a solid recommendation at the bargain end of the price spectrum. Maaco on Stockton Ave near Taylor in San Jose. They do a good number of vintage cars and have done two for me in the last couple of years with very nice results. Yes, they are driver quality but the guys were thorough and diligent, are fine with frequent visits, and even invited me into the booth once the sealer primer was applied to check for flaws. Go see Eric & Elias and judge for yourself. Note: I gutted the cars first then delivered the shells for paint.

Funny, but this is the second time that Maaco has been recommended to me. They must be doing something right. Honestly I’ve been working on the house and my uncle’s truck so the mustang has been neglected.
Trkpny2 was right and I’m showing my naivety. Of the local shops I’ve talked to, it’s all water based and that's not a bad thing from what I've seen.
My uncle wants to paint his truck at “Marty’s Chop Shop” in Campbell. Does anyone have any experience good/bad with them? I’ll probably wait and see how they do on his truck, then ask for a quote if it’s a good job.

You might try the Campbell police department. LOL

Do you have information backing your intimation that this is a crooked business?
I have heard good things about Marty's, a smaller family business.
That was a joke ("chop shop"), hence my "LOL".

Just a quick follow up here. The paint was great, but they did so much damage reassembling the truck (just 2 doors) that I'll pass on taking my car car to Marty's. Tons of small and medium sized problems that were easliy avoidable.

Thanks for the heads up. Sorry about what happened. So Marty's CHOP shop is a good name?
