I need help with a fastback Brian and I looked at. It need rear quarters, door skins and other sheet metal. My questions are:
1. any feeling for repops on rear 1/4's and any success with one particular manufacturer?
2. Door skins - Love 'em or Hate 'em? w
3. T10 trannys - how much of a PITA is it to swap with a t5z?

We did the patch panel thing on my quarters, which worked out very well...kept all the "lines" that way. As far as the doors go...from what I've heard and read (and did)....if theres anyway you can cut and patch /salvage the doors...its your best bet!

Never heard of anyone being happy with a reskinned door. From what I have gleaned a major problem has been light gauge metal used making it hard to look good.

I just finished a t-5 in the vert and it was a matter of getting the adapter plate for the stock bellhousing drilling a couple of holes to match, getting the tranny mount, and shortening the drive line. It uses all the original clutch and the shifter fits right into the hole in the tunnel.

I'm in the middle of all this NOW Danno, we should talk at Monroe, or get together sooner.... maybe go see my car in Sultan.

T5: Did T5 change out already IMO it's best to go with 5.0 bell, cable clutch, T5 cross member and shorten drive shaft.

Doors: Save what you can of originals, try to avoid re-skinning... I'm having to replace the bottom 3" on both of mine, but the rest is in good enough shape.

Quarters: Same as doors, only replace those portions rusted beyond repair. Although I've seen re-pop's done, they are always a PIA.

There are lots of Partial skins out there. For my stuff, I decided to go with NPD sheet metal (1 because they are close, 2. because their service is usually very good, and 3, haven't heard negatives on Sheet Metal).

Depends on what you would consider swap parts. I updated to power brakes and added a mini starter at the same time so I spent a few hundred more than a pure swap would run.

Here's the breakdown:
- Used Cobra T5 with 5.0 Bell and Throw-out Fork - $450.00 (giving me some trouble now, so have to have it looked at, but looked good when I bought it)
- New Mini Tourqe starter because I wanted extra clearance with Tri-Y's - $170.00
- Mustang Steve Pedal Hangar Assem with quadrant, adjustable fire-wall brace and Power Brake Booster - $400.00 (would have been around $200.00 w/o booster)
-Ron-Morris Performance T5 Cross Member (the BEST out there ) - $140.00
- Swap Yoke, shorten & balance DS - $80.00 (not counting yoke, I had one)
- Used Hurst Billet short throw shifter - $100.00
- New T5 Shift Handle (stock old style) - $125.00
- New 5spd Knob - $40.00

So all in all it ran me about $1500.00

Oh, and since the car was originaly an auto, you need to factor in the clutch kit (Diaphram style performance clutch kit form M+) $200.00

Why............. you got a project planned?

Ken

Now if he could just get the current owner of his project onboard with "the plan"! ::

Hey Dan,
It was good to hear from you today....I just wanted to let you know that the owner of that FB can call me directly on my cell, or he can call either me or Ray at Commet Autobody (206) 363-7744. We would really like to see the car before we can give a quote on how much it will cost.

Glad you have found something you are interested in ::
