Hey PNW's! My name is Scott Miller, and I currently reside in Indianapolis. My company has asked me if I would be interested in moving to help start a new office. Seattle is one option that I am interested in. Check out my post here and please chime in!

Thanks,
Scott

Scott, We seem to be a taciturn bunch today (unusual). Probably sleeping off all the ale and microbrew...

You are welcome over to the PNW... If you decide to visit, let someone here know and we may be able to show you around. It's beautiful and green in Seattle nearly all year. There's a reason housing is so expensive! We'll share.

If (and it's probably a BIG if after you click on the definition(s) of "Seattleite") you decide to move to Seattle, be forewarned--you will be assimilated. Coke? Nah--it's a Black Tie mocha from Wayward or a Pyramid Curveball or Redhook Blonde.

I'd like to give you a warning about staying away from a few local characters but it would probably just get "altered". Nope--you're on your own there. :p

Humor is a requirement in Seattle unless you are very liberal or a democrat .

I've lived here all my life. Yep, I'm the minority. I actually grew up in Seattle.

I'm a bit bias. But it's a great place. People that move from California generally have trouble with 5 months of cloudy, dark skies.

I resemble that remark . Been here since Jan. 1994 , from Sacramento , and the winters still suck . That 2 weeks of long warm summer nights does help a wee bit . Did we even have 2 weeks of summer this year ? My garden does not think so .

Scott, welcome to the PNW VMF. We have a great group of members in this area, and as long as your not some kind of moron (wait a sec, you own a Mustang so you can't be all bad), you'll fit right in.

Fortunately for you, no one has been lying to you about our regional environment (come on guys, we don't need a bunch of transplants). While it can be wet, it has something for everyone. No, really. Depending on where you find a home, most things are within an hour or 2, which, when you get used to the drive, is really nothing.

I'm not going to try and sell you on Seattle because I can't speak for anywhere else. I am a born and raised Washingtonian, and while I've often wondered what it would be like away from here, I can't, or won't (right now, anyway) take the chance and ruin my and our families standard of living. Sure, I could move south (and drive my car year round) and my kids would be playing softball/baseball year round, but personally I think in the long run they would lose the "four season experience" that we get here (some of the time). I'm happy here and am glad I have a standard of living that I'm comfortable with (besides, I don't think I'd ever get SWMBO to move away).

Anyway, do your research, and do what is best for you. Good luck.

How's that Daniel?? :p :p

Five months of cloudy days? You call that winter? In Indiana, October is nice when all the leaves turn. December isn't too bad. January and February are horribly cold, icy, and snowy. March and the first half of April are cold, windy, and wet. The first half of May isn't too bad if you like going from 40 degrees to 70 and back to 40 in the same day. June & July are pretty good, but it can get in the 90's. August is very humid, then the last half of September cools back down at nights.

Also, in Indiana, we measure distance in minutes or hours. Where I grew up, you scheduled your trips to "town".
