Hurricane Matthew

Something those of us on the East Coast need to keep an eye on. Seems the NHC's path cone is shifting to the WEST, and is currently putting the East coast of Florida in that cone.

MATTHEW Graphics Archive <-- Animated path progression

Currently a Category 5 Hurricane, the first in nine years, Matthew is not expected to retain that strength once it gets into the Caribbean, but is still expected to be a powerful one. South Florida is expected to start seeing Matthew's effects as early as Wednesday.

Models continue to take Matthew north through into the Bahamas, but then we have major divergence among the top models. As just one example, the 12Z Friday operational run of the GFS model pulls Matthew almost due north, slamming it into eastern Maine as a significant hurricane or very intense post-tropical storm by next weekend. The 12Z run of the ECMWF model strands Matthew in the Bahamas, where it lingers through next weekend and into the following week as a major hurricane. The 12Z run of the UKMET, another top track model, also stalls Matthew in the Bahamas, then angles it northwest toward the Southeast U.S. coast.

East Coast, I hope you are watching this, Preparing for this. Tuesday evening Matthew should be clearing Cuba and in the northern Caribbean. Hurricane winds up to 80 miles from the center, Tropical Storm force winds up to 180 miles from the center. Wednesday Afternoon Matthew should be over the Bahamas as a Cat 4 hurricane.

Latest Euro run has Matthew making landfall around Coco/Cape Canaveral. Hurricane Center is slowly moving the cone to the West.

The latest advisory has it even closer to the coast. Hurricane force winds extend out 45 miles from the center. Hopefully it stays East enough to keep from doing much damage.

I keep noticing the DOT puts up signs to honor my burnouts. That's nice of them.

I'm 40 miles inland and expect power outages from falling trees.

I've got a generator and a motor home.

I'm leaving town as soon as I can secure everything after the storm.

It's starting to look lie we're going to get hurricane force winds as it grazes the coast.

We made it without losing power or any damage.

Neighbors lost power to falling trees. I've run extension cords to run their refrigerators.

As usual, the MSM blew this storm WAY out of proportion so they could get the viewership up and to stimulate the local economy (read, all gas sold, grocery store shelves emptied).

Have family scattered all up the east coast of Fl and they knew better. Put stuff away, boarded up windows from debris and sat on the porch watching the trees sway. I've seen it and been through it a dozen times. When those storms come up the coast, they have never turned into what the talking heads try to scare you about.

It's a conspiracy I tell ya

I do feel for those in the Carolinas. They do seem to get nut punched by these shore huggers.
